WOMAN WHO KNOCKED DOWN POPE DIDN’T EVEN SEE HIM STANDING THERE

December 25 2009

Vatican City – The Pope, the head of the Catholic Church and the Bishop of Rome, is a title that dates back to the time of Christ. Saint Peter was the first man to hold the position, albeit in a markedly different manner than in its modern form, which has saint peter
been passed down as a title of religious deference and power unmatched in the history of religion. Though the position has suffered significant controversies, ranging from support of Nazi Germany to child abuse to abortion and birth control, the power and influence of the papal office has endured and pushed Catholicism and Christianity to the most dominant unifying force the world has ever seen.

Despite the erosion of religious belief throughout the west in recent years respect and awe for the position remains largely unchallenged throughout the world with even irreligious types show great deference to the man holding that venerated position. Of course not everyone feels the same way as evidenced by an incident on Christmas Eve at St Peter’s Basilica where a woman mistakenly bumped into Pope Benedict and knocked him to the ground. Though the pontiff was unhurt by the incident, the resulting melee caused chaos throughout the papal contingent. Now it appears that woman was simply confused and that she didn’t even notice the Pope until after he had fallen.

“The pontiff was unharmed by the incident and would like bestow his best wishes on pope attack
the people of the world at this time, the celebration of the birth of our Lord and Saviour. This is not a time for recrimination or controversy, it is a time to celebrate the beauty of the human race and the gifts that the Lord had given us,” said a Vatican spokesperson. “The woman involved in the incident was apparently taken into custody by police and we expect that she will be dealt with appropriately. While we do encourage people to use this time to reflect on the state of the world and the power of the Lord, we do understand their concern over this incident. Rest assured that the Pontiff was always safe and will remain so under our aegis.”

The Pope went on to deliver mass at the Basilica shortly after the incident apparently no worse for the wear.pope benedict

“Security incidents have of course happened many times before and there was even a similar incident last year at the Christmas mass, though the offender that time did not actually reach the Pope. While it does bring a lot of questions as to the efficacy of the Papal guard, it may also be that this was just a misunderstanding,” said Scrape TV Religion analyst Bertram Gas. “From what I’ve heard the woman is saying it was a complete accident. She was there for the mass but had somehow been pushed by the sea of people awaiting the Pope’s message and ended up next to him. The next thing she knew he was on the ground but that it was in no way deliberate.”

At 5’ 7”, the Pope is considered a little under average height for a man though not short. At 82-years old Benedict does walk with a slight hunch which may have inhibited the woman’s view.pope benedict saturno hat

“I’m sure this is a terribly embarrassing incident for the woman. I mean who wouldn’t be a little red-in-the-face after nearly killing the leader of the Catholic religion and one of the most powerful people on the planet. It’s going to make for some awkward dinner conversation and just a little bit of razzing I think,” continued Gas. “She’ll live it down though and so will the Pope. Maybe from now on both of them will pay a little more attention to where they’re walking.”

Being the Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Jesus Christ, Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the State of Vatican City, Servant of the Servants of God, and the head of the Holy See, the Pope didn’t apologize to the woman for his role in the incident.
