EGYPT SET TO UNVEIL KING TUT DNA RESULTS ON ‘MAURY’

February 6 2010

Cairo, Egypt – There are few historical figures that capture the imagination of as many people as that of King Tutankhamen. By the standards of other great historical figures – Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Jesus Christ, Napoleon Bonaparte, Adolf king tut gold mask
Hitler to name a few – Tutankhamen’s accomplishments and influence in life were relatively minor yet his legend has lasted longer than any of those figures. The mystery of Tutankhamen popularity though is matched only by the mystery of his life which archaeologists have spent decades trying to unravel.

For many Tut represents the awe and elegance of ancient Egypt better than any other figure from that era, an era that still holds great power over our collective imaginations. The massive pyramids and the mighty Sphinx still stand as a tribute to our early accomplishments that would eventually lead to the engineering feats that have created the great cities of today. It is Tutankhamen though that remains the greatest and most compelling story of that era and it is those questions to which archaeologists believe they may finally have the answers. Those answers though will have to remain a mystery for now Egypt’s top archaeologist, Zahi Hawass, negotiates for an hour long episode of ‘Who's Your Daddy?’ on the hit television show ‘Maury’.king tut mummy

“Egypt will announce the secrets of the family and lineage of Tutankhamun on the 17th of February in the Egyptian Museum through the announcement of results of scientific tests conducted on the mummy of the king after the completion of DNA analysis and CT scan,” said Hawass to AFP. “Comparison of these tests and examination tests conducted on a number of royal mummies to see the young king’s family and its relationship to King Amenhotep III father of King Amenhotep IV, known as Akhenaten, Pharaoh of monotheism, who called for worshiping one and only god ‘Aten’ and his successor on the throne Tutankhamen, who was believed to be his son. The next three months will see a series of discoveries and important events at the level of Egyptian antiquities, including, along with what the golden pharaoh Tutankhamun, other important archaeological discoveries in the area of Saqqara and the Pyramids.”maury povich

Hawass would not confirm or deny the negotiations with producers of ‘Maury’ which are believed at an impasse over the length of the segment.

“It’s sticky for them because it’s a big story but no one, including Maury, believes that it’s an hour long segment. They don’t do this show every day and they have a huge back log of people waiting to get on the show, some of them very entertaining, and they want to get those people on the air,” said an insider with the show. “They also see this as a chance to further the product. They want to show people what the show really is before finally doing the big reveal. That’s what TV is all about, saving the big story for the end and keeping people watching. The whole thing hinges on this but eventually one side will have to bend.”

“In practical terms the lineage of Tutankhamen mean very little to the modern world. Ancient Egypt is a compelling historical artifact and has great cultural and historical significance for the entire world, but who Tut slept with is of relatively minor interest, archaeologically speaking at least,” said Scrape TV Archaeology analyst Meyer Hernandez. “That said, his popularity and resonance in the culture and identity of the time period means that people will be interested and that means fresh financing for the teams in Egypt. Equally, ‘Maury’ could really use the boost so for both sides I hope it’s worked out. I personally have a great deal of interest and I can tell you I will be watching.”

Jerry Springer is reportedly also interested in the announcement.
