LENIN UNHURT AFTER ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
March 18 2010
Moscow, Russia – Assassination has always been a major part of the political make up of the world. The earliest recorded political killing was more than three thousand years ago when Ehud killed Eglon, the King of Moab by stabbing him through and
through with a sword. Since that time names such as Julius Caesar, William of Orange, Abraham Lincoln, Mohandas Ghandi, and John F. Kennedy have been just a few of the names added to that long list. Those killings have forever changed the political and social landscapes of their countries, and in many cases changed the course of history for everyone.
There is no better example of that paradigm shift caused by assassination than was witnessed in the death of Franz Ferdinand, the archduke of Austro-Hungary whose assassination sparked the First World War. That conflict remapped Europe and the Middle East and eventually led to the rise of the Nazi’s in Germany, sparking the greatest conflict in human history, which in itself led to the Cold War and the spectacular traumas and advances that have occurred since. That one act, an assassination, changed the fate of every nation on the planet, and changed the destiny of the human race forever. Assassination, for good or ill, changes everything, something that was no doubt on the mind of everyone in Russia today after an enraged gunman attempted to break into Vladimir Lenin’s tomb.
“Today security officials stopped a man armed with a firearm attempted to break into the resting place of Vladimir Lenin. The man was stopped before getting close enough to take a shot and has been taken into custody. He will undergo psychological testing,” said a spokesperson for the Moscow police. “Chairman Lenin was unharmed by the incident. Everyone is understandably a little shaken up and nervous after the incident, but we do believe that it was an isolated situation. The Chairman’s regular schedule should incur no further interruption.”
Witnesses report that activity in and around Red Square returned to normal shortly after the potential assassin was apprehended.
“Obviously assassination can create a great trauma on a nation but it can also be a great catalyst for change. Imagine if someone had successful assassinated Hitler,
especially during the early years. Millions would have survived the war or not had to endure it at all. Of course our world would be much different and we could have ended up with even more dead, shorter life spans, and the like, but just to use that to illustrate the point,” said Scrape TV Historical analyst Lars Luger. “You could even make the argument that the killings of Malcolm X and Martin Luther King did more to further the cause of black people in the United States than anything they could have done if they had lived. We’ll never know of course, but history shows that such killings are profoundly important to the makeup of a nation, though for obvious reasons that would be diminished in the case of Lenin.”
Lenin, the first leader of the Soviet Union, died in 1924. His remains have been mummified and displayed in Red Square since his death.
“Assassinating a dead person would obviously have much less of an impact than killing a live person. Lenin is an important symbol for the Russian people and is one of their most compelling, though ghoulish, tourist attractions. Plugging a couple of rounds into him would have angered people, but likely wouldn’t have done much to the nation as a whole,” continued Luger. “Russia is certainly flirting with the old Communist days and symbolically someone shooting up the architect of those days would have caused a fuss, but it wouldn’t have the direct impact of someone like say Vladimir Putin or Barack Obama, corpses, no matter who they are, just don’t have the same political cache as their living counterparts and likely never will.”
In a related incident, a man was caught urinating near the Kremlin Wall Necropolis where Lenin’s successor, Josef Stalin, is buried.
