PERU CLEARS OUT MACHU PICCHU AS PRELUDE TO INVASION
February 1 2010
Machu Picchu, Peru – One of the unfortunate truths of the European settlement of the Americas was the partial and in some cases total obliteration of the native peoples already living there. In both North and South America, native peoples suffered untold

butchery, died of malicious diseases like smallpox, and had not only their populations destroyed, but their cultures simply left to history. While great peoples have fallen into the past all over the world, the destruction of cultures in the Americas meant the nearly total loss of their history, from people who did not build massive pyramids or hanging gardens.
The Inca were an exception who, along with their continental cousins the Maya, built great temples and civilizations rivalling even the greatest that had been born in Africa, Europe, and Asia. Alas, with the arrival of the Europeans those cultures halted and the peoples disappeared forever, leaving only remnants of their great cultures and dreams of what might have been possible had they had a few more centuries to develop. One such site is the now legendary Machu Picchu which served as the seat of the Incan hegemony for over one hundred years. By the end of that reign the Spanish had come, wiping out the Incan culture and leaving the site a barren wasteland. Now hundreds of years after that demise, the Spanish descendants have once again made the site a wasteland causing many to ponder what dangers lay ahead in Peru.
“Machu Picchu will remain closed for weeks until the government can repair roads and railroad tracks washed out by mudslides and the raging Urubamba River. We have evacuated almost 4000 visitors to the region and we will continue to prevent people from entering the area until we can determine that it is safe,” said a government spokesperson. “Machu Picchu is not a right but we recognize its importance to many people, just as our ancestors did 400 years ago. That is why we cannot allow people into such an unsafe area again, we simply do not want the tragedy of all those years ago to occur again.”
It’s not clear how many people inhabited the site in its prime but shortly after the conquest of the region by the Spanish, the site became suddenly vacant.
“Traditionally researchers and archaeologists have pointed to diseases like smallpox as
the principal reason for the elimination of people in the region. With no exposure and
thus no immunity, the native peoples were particularly susceptible to these diseases. There was also a great deal of butchery and rape which colluded to eliminate the Inca and other indigenous people,” said Scrape TV Archaeology analyst Meyer Hernandez. “It’s great that they are moving these people from the area but suggesting that mudslides were the reason the Incas were destroyed in the first place is a little suspect. True, they don’t want any more people dying in mass numbers at the site but using this as an excuse to rewrite history is a dangerous sign.”
Traditionally dictatorships have diminished bad incidents and amplified victimization as a way of motivating the masses, generally as prelude to war.
“Look at Nazi Germany as an example. They diminished their role in WWI, evoked pride in the history of the Germanic peoples, and played up the victim role, blaming the Jews and countries like Britain and France for their current situation. That led to almost unlimited support for the Nazis and ultimately everything that happened there,” continued Hernandez. “This could be the prelude to some major movement in the region. Peru has done very well over the last few years and weathered the recession quite well which puts them in a good spot to launch an invasion. The first warning sign is rewriting history and forcibly relocating individuals, so we will have to wait and see what happens next.”
It’s believed that the first move will be into Ecuador, then Colombia which will cut off important trade routes for chief rival Brazil. It’s also believed that southern countries such as Bolivia and Chile will simply roll over.
