TURKISH COUP ATTEMPT MOSTLY CONCERNS TURKS

February 26 2010

Ankara, Turkey – As long as there is government, there will be opposition. By its inherent nature, government is oppressive to those who feel at odds with the status quo. While it is an essential element of a structured society, the existence of a body tianamen square
which forces law and taxation on ostensibly free people will always draw rankles. Sometimes such opposition is right and successful, witness the Boston Tea Party or the rebellion against Nicolae Ceausescu, but more often than not real rebellions, or coups, against the establishment end in death and imprisonment for the conspirators.

That hasn’t stopped such actions however and likely never will. As long as governments are unable to represent every person in their society in an effective way, dissent will thrive. The recent attack on a federal building in Austin, Texas , or the growing power of the Tea Party movement in the United States are just two examples of how, even in a prosperous society, tension can seed rebellion that can mustafa ataturk
forever change the face of a country. For Turkey, a country that once boasted one of the greatest Empires the world has ever known, dissent is something all too familiar. It was rebellion that helped end that empire and establish modern day Turkey, and it is rebellion that almost overtook the government that now counts itself amongst the most respected in the world. As before however, the latest coup attempt really only held the interest of Turks.

“The public must be assured that matters will be handled in line with the law and everyone should act responsibly not to damage institutions. Talks with Abdullah Gul and General Ilker Basbug have been very good,” said Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. “We will not comment further on the investigation into the incident. Rest assured that every action that needs to be undertaken is being undertaken and those responsible for any acts against the government or the people of Turkey will be held accountable.”Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

Dozens of military officers were arrested and later released in the wake of the attempted coup which is believed to have been an attempt by the secularist military to dismantle the increasingly religious government.

“Turkey is a complex country but is, in many ways, a vision of things to come. They are the first country with a Muslim majority to reach this level of democratization and their success or failure could help define how other Muslim countries will pursue such matters. In many ways, the success or failure of Turkey could also help to define how Islam itself will ultimately work in the modern world,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Turkey is also a strategically important country, bridging Europe and the Middle East, a key ally to the United States, and boasting one of the healthiest economies in the world the strength and stability of Turkey is deeply important in a great many areas. That said, I still can’t get too excited about this.”

Some have speculated that the coup was actually a creation the government which has been seeking an erosion of the influence of the military in day-to-day politics.ottoman empire

“If this had happened in an unstable country or one that has a really integrated economy like say in Europe or northern Asia, than it would be a much bigger deal. No offence to the people of Turkey or anything, but as coups go this one is pretty forgettable,” continued Hander. “It isn’t that Turkey isn’t a great country, or that their history or future isn’t compelling. Saying that would be dishonest. It’s just that, well I don’t know. I’m having trouble coming up with ways to analyse or describe this because I just can’t get excited about it the same way I would with a more important country, I mean a different country.”

It’s believed that law enforcement official will likely do something about the coup plotters.
