WORLD SHOCKED AS BOMBS EXPLODE, IN AFGHANISTAN
January 19 2010
Kabul, Afghanistan – A series of explosions and fierce gun battles broke out in the middle of downtown Kabul early yesterday, snarling traffic and sending residents fleeing for cover. The attack, apparently conducted by a group calling themselves ‘The

Taliban’ comes weeks after the re-election of Hamid Karzai to President of the country. It’s believed that the attacks by this obscure yet well organized and apparently well funded organization are a direct challenge the authority of the government and the military forces currently in the city.
The attacks came early in the morning, about 10 AM local time just as new members of the Karzai government were being sworn into office. Luckily, the attacks did not delay the swearing in ceremonies. The attacks though underscore the increasing instability in the region and in the country as a whole, something apparently very much on the mind of governments around the world particularly the United States which has long used areas throughout the country as a general R&R location for their forces. Now those plans are coming into question with the risk of violence now appearing to have become a much more prevalent in the once peaceful nation.
“It’s an absolute horror show in the capital. Gun battles in shopping malls, buildings on fire, just chaos. Luckily very few people have been killed or injured but it’s clear that this new force is a formidable one and it’s very possible that they will use this offensive as a launching point for new efforts. I can’t imagine that they will have planned this effort, executed it, and not had a follow-up. It appears that the peace that Afghanistan has long enjoyed is now over,” said Scrape TV Middle Eastern Field correspondent Arif Abadi. “Frankly, I’m not going anywhere near the situation. Things are likely only going to get worse so travelling there will be very difficult and working there almost like suicide. It’s okay though, I’m watching the details on news sites and I have a few people on Twitter.”
Nearly forty-thousand U.S. troops had already been destined to vacation in the city but it’s now no longer clear what might happen to those plans.
“I can’t imagine that any soldier would want to go near the situation to be honest. I mean I know they have guns and training and the like but it’s like a war zone out there. Guns, bombs, people running around screaming. Seriously, why would anyone want to go there?” continued Abadi. “I’m sure things will be a lot worse before they are better. Plus with all those buildings wrecked or destroyed there’s going to be all kinds of people running around fixing things. That’s not the right kind of environment to report from and I believe that I can get all the best and most accurate information from here. I’ll stay in touch if the situation gets any worse.”
There are some concerns that the attack could lead to instability throughout Afghanistan and possibly into Pakistan, potentially destabilizing huge areas of both countries.”
“The last thing anyone wants is a destabilized Afghanistan. Traditionally that country has been a major transit point for militaries, especially those looking for rest, and no one wants to upset that balance. I mean even the Khans used Afghanistan for those reasons and we don’t want to lose that,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “I think these issues will be isolated ones that won’t compromise the long term stability of the region. I don’t have any real data to back up that statement but it’s a gut feeling and usually that works out for me so we will have to wait and see.”
Apparently Afghanistan has been in the midst of a war for a long time, according to reports.
