ITALIANS ON ALERT FOR WILD PROSTITUTES
April 5 2010
Treviso, Italy – It has been said many times that prostitution is the world’s oldest profession. While anthropological veracity of that claim is marginal at best, it frequently appears in debates over the job. Those debates continue to be waged
across the world with morality, ethics, and genuine social concerns keeping the job on
the opposite side of the law virtually everywhere. Even in areas where paying for sex has legal standing, such as Las Vegas and Amsterdam, the debate continues to rage making it will likely still be a long time before one of the world’s oldest professions will be readily accepted.
One nation that the job may never gain legal acceptance is Italy, a nation whose history is riddled with sexual indulgence but which has, in recent years, become one of the most religious states in the world. Of course, the nation is still a nation of lovers that despite the overarching conservatism is still in touch with her roots and is well aware that despite public declarations to the opposite sex for money is common in the country. Of course finding purveyors of that profession can be difficult but a community just outside the northern city of Treviso believes they may have found a herd of wild prostitutes and have begun warning locals of such.
“We have placed these signs throughout the area to make people aware that there may be incidents with the local wildlife. We have encountered a number of prostitutes throughout the area and there have been many more sightings and we believe that there may be a large assortment of them throughout the area,” said a police spokesperson. “We have tried our best to capture them but have only been partially successful and we felt the best action to takes was to warn motorists that they might encounter them while they are in the area. We must insist that no citizens attempt to approach the prostitutes if they are spotted but instead please report them to us. We are trained to deal with this type of thing.”
It’s not clear how many prostitutes might be in the area or how widespread the population might be.
“Prostitution has been a scourge and partner in law enforcement almost since that particular profession began. No matter the country, the job exists and police and public officials know this but ultimately are either unable or unwilling to actually put an end to it. It’s a part of the underworld economy that simply exists in societies,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “For most police agencies the job is really just to mitigate the negative effects of the job, specifically drugs and violence, rather than stopping the profession itself. There really isn’t an option considering how much money and manpower it would take to actually put an end to the job, never mind the social issues that would inevitably occur as a result of stopping it.”
According to recent surveys people throughout Italy really like sex.
“These warning signs are the first time I’ve heard of a nation taking this kind of action. One has to wonder if it is as a much of an advertisement as it is a warning. Regardless, it’s good news for both motorists and the local wildlife. Now people will be more cautious about how they drive and where they drive,” continued Green. “I wouldn’t be surprised to see similar efforts pop up throughout Italy and even spread to other countries. It really could go a long towards keeping everyone safe.”
