NOAH’S ARK FOUND IN TURKEY BUT APPARENTLY NOT SEAWORTHY
April 27 2010
Ankara, Turkey – For almost 5000 years stories of a massive ship housing the entire world’s animals and brining them to safety has been an obsession for billions. Compelling the followers of all the Abrahamic traditions, most notably Judaism,
Christianity, and Islam, the story of Noah’s Ark has been a largely fanciful but nonetheless compelling story of how our modern world came to be. Because it is such a compelling tale researchers have for decades been trying to prove the truth of the tale and now a group believes they have finally done that in the mountains of eastern Turkey.
Mount Ararat has long believed to be the place where Noah’s ship ran aground and where all the animals that now make up the world’s ecosystem went aground to safety, surviving the massive flood that God had levelled on the world. A group of Chinese and Turkish researchers believe they have finally found the Ark on that mountain, reporting that carbon dating confirms the age of the vessel, and various compartments could very well have held animals. Though the size of the ship has not yet been announced, the group is convinced that the remains are that of the fabled vessel though they have confirmed that they do not believe it is sea worthy any longer.
“It's not 100 per cent that it is Noah's Ark, but we think it is 99.9 per cent that this is it. Carbon dating confirms that the vessel dates to 4800 years ago, which is the time of the flood, and various other pieces of evidence suggest that this is in fact the Ark that we have sought for so long,” said Yeung Wing-Cheung, from the Noah's Ark Ministries International research team. “However we do need to report that the vessel seems to have incurred some damage over the years. Obviously it is very high up on a mountain, nowhere near the water, but we believe that even if we were to bring it down we would have great difficulty in making it sea worthy. We believe it is best left as an historical document.”
The researchers also noted that there was also a great deal of animal droppings throughout the vessel.
“History, archaeology, and various other branches of science and research all point to
the story of the Ark being merely parable. A vessel of that size, required to house literally millions of animals, would have not been sea worthy at all. Today we couldn’t make something that large float, never mind 5000 years ago,” said Scrape TV Religion analyst Bertram Gas. “Of course the important part of the tale isn’t the animals, it is the flood which wiped away all the sinners. The story speaks to the power of the Lord and his compassion for all human beings. The literal translation is hardly even necessary even if it were to be proven true. I’d take a guess that this isn’t really the Ark, if it ever existed.”
Most boat experts believe that the Ark would have needed to have been really, really big to do what it was fabled to do.
“Of course there is still this giant boat on top of a mountain so it is a mystery that should really be investigated. Getting that boat down, putting into ship shape order and putting her out to sea will help solve the mystery of whether or not this ship was ever used and how it got all the way up there, though that sounds like no easy task,” continued Gas. “Any ship that old is going to have serious rot and other issues so getting it up and floating is going to be a task but something they are really going to have to do in order to get their money’s worth out of this whole operation. They have to com e away with something.”
The researchers believe that the animal droppings, particularly the elephant droppings, will be the most difficult part of the cleanup.
