POLAND CONSIDERS BANNING AIRFLIGHT AFTER PRESIDENT DIES IN CRASH
April 10 2010
Warsaw, Poland – It’s hard to believe but a little over one hundred years ago mankind had never flown through the air. We had tried and dreamt of taking flight alongside the birds, but for millions of years of human life, flight was little more than

just that, a dream. Finally we overcame the obstacles and took to the air and now that dream is not just a reality, it is commonplace with flight almost as normal as riding a bicycle or taking the bus, quite amazing really considering how long we’ve been doing it.
Of course there are always going to be issues and accidents. Like any form of travel, flying though the air is prone to variables beyond our control such as weather, instrument failure, technical malfunctions, and simple human error that can cause horror, which is generally amplified by the fact that planes generally carry a large number of people. That horror is exactly what the people of Poland are dealing with today after a devastating crash killed President Lech Kaczynski, First Lady, and a number of other government officials in Russia. While the exact cause of the crash are not yet clear, what is clear is that as safe as air travel has become there are still inherent dangers, which has already prompted certain elements within Poland to call for man to stop flying completely.
“This is a shocking and devastating day for the people of Poland and we must take this time to mourn for the families and friends of those who perished in this crash. The people of Poland accept the sentiments of grief from those around the world and we appreciate the sharing of our tragedy,” said the government in an official statement. “We must mourn but we must also find the cause of this crash to give closure as well as prevent such tragedies from occurring again in the future. There are those who have reacted angrily to the news of this accident and called for a grounding of all aircraft, but we will not take such action at this time.”
Planes were still travelling in and out of Warsaw’s Fredric Chopin airport as of this writing.
“This is a horrible, horrible tragedy for so many people. Rarely do nations see the death of major leaders while still in power and to have so many important people die in such a way has to be devastating to the people of the country. However, this call to ground planes is nothing new in the country,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “There has been a growing movement within the country for a number of years to try and ground planes and this is exactly the kind of incident that will give those voices a lot more weight. These are the same groups that have been trying to pull Poland back from advances of the 20th century that also include the internet and the telephone.”
Polish advances throughout the decade were severely limited by Soviet rule, a time for which many people yearn to return.
“I sincerely doubt that even something as devastating as this will start a whole scale revolution and ground the country completely but it could give power to these groups which could then extend to other areas of significant conservatism,” continued Hander. “Of course the real question, the most important question, is whether or not it really matters if the entire nation is grounded. I mean Marie Curie was important and so was Copernicus but that happened a long time ago. Perhaps isolating the country would be the best thing for everyone.”
Neighbouring Slovakia has grounded all three planes in that country following the news.
