BRITISH POLICE ON THE HUNT FOR SERIAL KILLER SWAN

September 20 2010

Haverfordwest, Wales – Ever since the dark days in the late 19th century in London, serial killers have stalked our nightmares. Though such killers undoubtedly existed before the exploits of that infamous slasher, his popularity brought such jack the ripper
individuals to the public’s attention for the first time which eventually led to the prominence such real life monsters enjoy today. Without Jack, there would be no books, no movies, no video games that explore the depths of depravity that most chronic murderers employ and would rob us of perhaps the most important of historical monsters.

Like any monsters, whether the type which possess supernatural powers or the type that hide under children’s beds, the real threat of serial killers is minimal. Throughout the terrifying history of serial killers less than three thousand deaths in the history of the species have died by such means, a piddling amount compared to real monsters such as heart disease and cancer. Serial killers though have remained a frightening menace and like all monsters before them – Cerberus, Minotaur, vampires, Godzilla – exist in an abstract form that serve some deeper need in the human experience. However unlike those legendary monsters, serial killers do exist and do cause real world harm, something Welsh police are learning the hard way after finding a serial killing swan in their midst.swan

“He is an absolutely horrible swan and people really don't like him. I've lost count of the times I've been over there to pick up dead and injured swan. Afterwards, he swims around the pond with his wings up, looking so proud of what he has done. And if his victims are injured on the bank, he just won't let them back in the water,” said local wildlife worker Maria Evans. “The water in the pond is very brackish, salty and not particularly clean, and pollution and lack of nutrients can both be responsible for nasty behaviour in swans.”

Local police have been called to investigate a number of times, but have been met with resistance from officials who are hiding the killer swan, nicknamed Hannibal, likely after the character in the book and film ‘Silence of the Lambs’.new scotland yard

“We have been to the area a number of times after calls from the public. Thus far we have 15 deaths and 22 gruesome injuries attributed to this individual but we have not been able to take action against him due to resistance from locals. While we certainly understand people’s affection for this animal, they must give us the tools we require to end this bloodshed,” said a police spokesperson. “We are calling on the public to provide us with any information possible so that we can end this bloodshed and bring peace to the area. We cannot tolerate such activities and we must act to secure the public and we will do whatever it takes to make sure that the public is indeed safe and secure.”angry swan

Local officials have been in contact with Scotland Yard but as yet no breakthrough has been made.

“This is so terrifying. Things like this are not supposed to happen here. This is the kind of thing that happens in big cities but not little towns like this. It’s terrifying and it makes me feel like the police are not doing their job to protect us,” said one local resident who preferred not to be named. “This is a small community. I have children and now I am frightened to have them walk alone. This is not the type of life that anyone should have to live and yet here we are living it.”

It’s likely that the guilty swan will be the last one anyone would have suspected.
