CHINESE SUPER WEAPON TO DECIDE THE FATE OF THE PACIFIC
September 1 2010
Beijing, China – There are a few territories in the world that have long been fought over and sought after. The Holy Land is perhaps the best example of such land lust. For centuries the territory has changed hands and been the epicentre of bloodshed,
from King David to Yasser Arafat, men have lusted over the region and many millions have died in trying to capture the land. The Holy Land though is primarily an obsession of Europe and the Middle East. The rest of the world has been preoccupied with their own conquests and their own victories.
For the Mongols it was the control of the silk road, for the Russians it is the caucuses, and for most countries in the far east, it is the Pacific. For centuries, three great nations have fought and variously controlled the waters bordering them. In recent years it has been the Japanese who have dominated the pacific realm but the other nations, Korea and China, have also fought and bled for the region. Now though a new paradigm has been entered into the battle, a weapon that many believe will finally turn control of the massive ocean to the Chinese once and for all. The mystery missile system will, it is believed, finally turn the tide and make the Chinese the dominant power in the region once and for all.
“The Navy has long had to fear carrier-killing capabilities. The emerging Chinese antiship missile capability, and in particular the DF 21D, represents the first post-Cold War capability that is both potentially capable of stopping our naval power projection and deliberately designed for that purpose,” Patrick Cronin, senior director of the Asia-Pacific Security Program told SFGate. “China can reach out and hit the U.S. well before the U.S. can get close enough to the mainland to hit back. Carrier-killing missiles could have an enduring psychological effect on U.S. policymakers. This is the weapon that could turn the tide forever.”
U.S. forces have maintained presence in the waters since the end of the Second World War. The U.S. holds a 3:1 advantage in aircraft carrier superiority with the rest of the world.
“This most certainly a major threat and makes China a major player but it is not the
kind of super weapon that could forever turn the tide. Such talk is fear mongering. Remember that China has a limited Navy and no carriers of her own and so they have little power to enforce any superiority in the waters,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “The ability to back up might is the real test of power and that is something the Chinese are still lacking. Now, if they were to say create a real super weapon that could shoot lasers from space then we would have something. The United States has a lot of really big missiles as well so this is really more of the same thing.”
The majority of the parts contained within in the new missiles are produced in Japan, for obvious reasons.
“Frankly I would like to see someone, anyone develop a real super weapon. Not nukes, nukes are just so destructive that you lose all strategic advantage. I’d like to see a weapon that say caused things to dematerialize or be sent into another dimension. That would be a real super weapon that would really change things,” continued Martinez. “People would be scared of that, no doubt but this thing is really soft. Never mind the fact that there is no way the Chinese would use it against the States, frankly, it’s really just a lot of bluster and the thing is probably broken already or poisoning children or something. They are going to have to do better than that to control the Pacific, never mind the world.”
South Korea had also been working on a similar missile system but the missiles somehow flew into themselves upon take off.
