FRESH BOMB HOAX PROMPTS OFFICIALS TO PUSH FOR THE REAL THING

September 25 2010

Stockholm, Sweden – It may seem like there was a world without terrorists before the events of September 11, 2001 but nothing could be further from the truth. There is little doubt that the events of that day brought the issue of terrorism to the 9 11
forefront, but terrorist attacks date back centuries. Hijackings and bombings were relatively common in the few decades before that fateful day and, in an irony of history, have been virtually nonexistent since then, though there have been a few scares now and then.

The increased awareness of the possibility of terrorist attacks on planes have undoubtedly resulted in the massive decline in recent years, something very much a relief to travellers but very much concerning for law enforcement officials. Such concerns are now being brought up in the case of an apparent bomb hoax aboard a plane travelling from Toronto to Karachi. The flight, which was diverted to Sweden, was allowed to travel across the Atlantic with an apparent bomber aboard, something officials fear is happening far too often and has many wondering if the lack of actual bombings is resulting in a more lax attitude. Now law enforcement officials from multiple countries are apparently considering loosening restrictions on plane travellers hoping that a real bombing might help jolt the enforcement industry back into life. richard reid

“This Canadian flight is a good example of what is going wrong in the field. This plane loaded with fuel for a transatlantic flight had a potential bomber on board and was able to cross the ocean without any trouble. This wasn’t a case where it was simply a suspicious looking person because apparently everyone on the plane was ethnic in some way which shows how difficult things have become,” said a Swedish law enforcement official. “We have gotten very poor and assessing these people properly and our success in preventing bombings is more likely a result of fear from bombers then actual enforcement. What we need is something to break us out of these doldrums and the best thing for that is a big blast.”

The plane was eventually allowed to continue on to Karachi and did not explode.

“There is little doubt that the September 11th attacks changed the way we looked at lokerbie bombing
security and at air travel forever. In some ways that has been a huge inconvenience but it has also resulted in fewer attacks, fewer incidents than had happened before. While it’s true that Al Qaeda may not have attacked again, no one else has either, and that’s a great win,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “However that may not last forever. Basically, without any terrorist attacks enforcement people have lacked real world experience and that makes attacks all the more likely. It’s clear that people can get through security, even people that look a little terrosity, and that means that it’s entirely possible that a real bomber could get through and do some damage.”

Most of the passengers on the plane were Pakistani, but most were cleared of bombe-related charges. The suspected bomber was released by Swedish authorities.air marshal

“The reality is without practical experience skills will degrade. That happens in virtually every field but in the case of terrorism enforcement that is a big deal because we have seen how badly things can go when the bad guys get through,” continued Davids. “What we really need is for someone to break through and blow something up. It’s would really be the best thing for everyone if someone could just sneak aboard a plane and kill a whole bunch of people. It would break us out of this stupor and reinvigorate the industry.”

Swedish officials have no plans to start a bombing campaign as yet.
