MI5 PLANNING SPECTACULAR IRA ATTACK

London, U.K. – Because of the current state of terror throughout much of the world it is often forgotten that many nations have spent decades fighting their own domestic battles. Countries such as Spain and Britain have for years been plagued by 
terrorist attacks and separatist groups intent on splitting their countries apart. However unlike the Al Qaeda fuelled terrorism, those parties have had political motivations within their own borders making them far more amenable to compromise and negotiation then those fighting in nations far from their own borders.
Perhaps the most famous of those terrorist situations has been the situation in Northern Ireland which in one fashion or another has been a blood feud for over ninety years. Recently however the region has been largely free from such turmoil with a series of cease fires holding for the first time in decades, at least until recently. A sudden uptick in bombings throughout the north has put the country on alert with concerns that the type of radicalism that has so coloured the country in the past. That increase, now at 49 bombings for the year over 22 for all of 2009, has also put MI5 on alert and back to work just as the threat of international terrorism starts to decline.
“What was not anticipated ... was the way in which the situation in Northern Ireland 
had deteriorated. The Service had considerably more what we would call priority, that is life-threatening, investigations in Northern Ireland than we do in the rest of Great Britain. It is not simply the increase in the number of bombings, it is also the increase in sophistication of the bombs that has us concerned,” said Jonathan Evans, Director General of the MI5. “What appears to have happened is that hard-line republicans who could never be brought to the negotiating table had been sitting on their hands for the last 10 years waiting for the moment to rejoin their war.”
Most experts believe that that the bulk of the bombings are the work of three groups but others aren’t quite so convinced.
“I can certainly understand the argument but I have lived through much of the troubles including all the ups and downs and this has a different kind of flavour to it. The bombs seem way to advanced for regular fighters, at least according to what I’ve read in the papers, and that means that they need people who really know what they are doing. Regular fighters simply can’t do that, but military men can,” said local shopkeeper Paddy O’Shea. “I’m a shopkeeper and I really don’t care to involve myself in politics but if I had to guess I would say that this was definitely the work of professionals not people who have been sitting around for ten years waiting for their time to strike. I’d guess there was some kind of outside involvement.”
It’s believed that many of the bomb parts are from the Balkans, though it’s likely only people on the inside would know the source of the weapons.
“It is a little unusual that there has been this sudden uptick, threefold increase and far 
more sophisticated bomb making, from a bunch of people who have been sitting around in pubs for a decades,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “That alone makes the whole situation more than a little suspect. You don’t go from 0 to 100 before warming up your engine and that makes one think that there has been a little push going on. In any kind of investigation you need to look at who has the most to gain from the crime and in this case, well in this case one organization has a lot to gain, and that organization has access to all the necessary tools and experience.”
MI6, the organization that James Bond works with, has denied being active in the area in the wake of two pen bombings in the last month.
