PETA INVESTIGATING TAIWANESE MOSQUITO HOLOCAUST

August 4 2010

Taipei, Taiwan – Insects. Creepy crawlies. Bugs. Whatever we call them and whatever we think of them they are here to stay. The irritants that have destroyed thousands of picnics and late night drinking sessions are never going to be loved by bugs life movie
the human population but are never going to go away. In all our success we have never been able to forge a peace between the insect world and our own, leading to increased warfare and more than a few hurt and angry lives on both sides of the battle.

Of course being humans, possessed of high intelligence and superior technology, we have been able to push back the insect population to readily accepted zones. For the most part we have our own realm and insects have theirs. The occasional flare up certainly occurs and more often than not it is the smaller creatures that are on the receiving end. However  insects have weapons as well and every year thousands of people are killed by insect bites, either by allergic reactions or through biological warfare. Even with all that killing though, a kind of peace has taken hold, that is until last year and one of the most remarkable mass killings in human history. At issue are the actions of Huang Yu-yen, a Taiwanese woman who apparently butchered four million mosquitoes, the largest insect murder in history.mosquito

“We have heard about this incident and are on our way to investigate right now. From what we have read it appears that this woman killed these insects for sport and was actually rewarded for her actions. We will not only be investigating the culprit but also the officials who encouraged this kind of act,” said PETA spokesperson. “Frankly the number is shocking, so shocking that it seems as though it could be false. For the good of all of us I hope that is true, I can’t imagine that any human being would willingly participate in this kind of action for any reason, never mind a few thousand dollars.”

Thus far, in 2010 there have 336 cases of Dengue Fever, 6 of them fatal, a disease which is carried by the deadly mosquito.mosquito close up

“One cannot underestimate the sheer brutality of something like this. True there are billions, perhaps trillions of mosquitoes around the world but this is an incredible number. It’s really hard to believe that any one person could willing commit such acts but that does appear to be the case. This speaks very poorly of our species as a whole,” said Scrape TV Environmental analyst Tanner King. “The fact that this was apparently done for a competition is equally remarkable. Even at their worst the Nazis did not reward people for the number they killed. Well, at least I haven’t read anything about that. I’m sure they did things like that, they were Nazis after all however I haven’t heard of that and I doubt it would have been for such a paltry sum as $3000.”

It’s not believed that the mosquitoes have made any effort to respond to the actions as they seem to be loosely organized.   dead mosquito

“We’ve been through these kinds of things before and as it has been in the past we need to make noise or people simply won’t listen. Millions of people were slaughtered in Europe and Asia and Africa in the last decade because no one said anything or took any kind of action and we cannot let that happen again,” continued King. “This isn’t an issue of culpability or even revenge. The issue here is what this does to our essential humanity. Even if the bugs don’t strike back, something we shouldn’t just assume, we may have lost a part of what makes us human and that cannot be regained unless we take action against those who participated in this holocaust.”

The Taiwanese government has officially denied that any mosquito murders have taken place.
