HITLER EXHIBIT TEACHING A NATION HOW TO HATE AGAIN
October 20 2010
Berlin, Germany – Persecution and hate have existed for as long as human beings have gathered together. All societies have had to deal with such issues and most will likely have to continue to deal with them in the future. Whether such actions are
simply part of the natural progression of a society, or whether or not they are a part of something deeper in the human psyche, something intrinsic to our species that no matter how sophisticated we become we will never be free.
While there are certainly dramatic historical examples of intense hatred levelled at certain groups, there is no example more dramatic or damning then the events perpetrated by the Nazi regime. As events and as examples, the actions by the Nazis, and by extension the civilians who participated in the deaths of all those millions, are the ultimate expression of our ability to hate and destroy each other. Because Germany was the epicentre of those actions, the country and the people within it have been coloured by those actions since the end of the war, and as it turns out an increasing number of ordinary Germans are just fine with that. With growing ethnic unrest and recent statements from Chancellor Merkel regarding the failure of multiculturalism, a new exhibit at the German Historical Museum has drawn thousands of visitors as a whole new generation learns how to hate.
“’Hitler and the Germans’ is not about his (Hitler’s) memorabilia or about the man himself. This is an attempt to show how everyday objects, things like playing cards and Toy Fuhrers, won the heart of the German people and turned them towards hate,” said curator Hans-Ulrech Thamer. “This is not a bland historical recitation, this is tactile display of how Hitler and his regime was able to win over ordinary people through their day-to-day lives. It shows how simple it can be to turn a rational people into an organized killing machine.”
Swastikas have been banned in Germany since the end of the war but museums have special permission to display them, leaving the exhibit one of the few places where ordinary Germans can engage in their past.
“Yes, we have had some objections. One of the fears discussed in the newspapers is
that this might promote extreme groups. But I am not sure they enter museums. This success however may prompt us to move the exhibit into more amenable locations which would allow all Germans to engage in this experience,” continued Thamer. “One of the guiding principles of this exhibit is to take history from books and put it on display for people to engage. Much in the way that these objects were used when they were initially created, the German people must engage these objects, hold them and touch them much like their parents and grandparents did. This must be done so that they will be able to truly understand hate.”
A recent poll showed that thirteen percent of Germans would welcome a new Fuhrer and seventeen percent believe that Jews have too much influence in the country.
“There are really three countries in the world that when faced with internal turmoil can

cause a lot of problems for other people. Russia has been growing in influence and shows little sign of slowing down so they may be strong. Japan has serious economic concerns but there is this massive bulwark in the shape of China that will help prevent problems. Germany on the other hand, well, they are different,” said Scrape TV European analyst Gillian Weismann. “I’m sure exhibits like this will push Germany back to a more natural state of being. Merkel is certainly making her case for leadership and I’m sure that as the economy continues to falter, we will see more and more of this activity. The German people seem to come across this quite easily.”
A representative for Chancellor Merkel simply yelled something in German when asked for comment.
