MEXICAN MILITARY SENDS SCOUTING UNIT TO TEXAS IN PRELUDE TO INVASION
February 16 2011
Brownsville, TX – Borders are a country. Borders define not only politics but also nationhood, the identity of a country and the identities of those who live within those boundaries. Ostensibly, borders are just lines on a map, seemingly arbitrary lines at
their core. Borders though are possibly the most important and influential invention in human history, invisible lines that have defined the course of human history through their creation, dissolution, and crossings. Without borders, it’s possible there would be no human history.
Even in today’s world which is more interconnected and fluid than at any other time in history, borders are still deeply powerful and important. Throughout the world conflicts continue to rage and new lines are being drawn nearly every day, new nations rising and falling just as they have throughout much of human history. With every won border, there are of course lost borders. After all the land mass on the planet has not changed recently meaning that for every gain by one people there is loss for another, one of the biggest and probably most important of which is the land Mexico lost to the United States a in the 19thy century. While certainly not the oldest of land claims, the subsequent prosperity and global reach of the United States was most certainly influenced by those land gains, making it as important as any other territorial disputes. For many Mexicans that debate is long from over as evidenced by a recent incursion by the military of that country into U.S. territory, marking what most people assume to be a precursor to an invasion.
“The truck was travelling along Anzalduas International Bridge towards the customs checkpoint when it suddenly made a u-turn and headed back towards Mexican territory. The vehicle was on U.S. soil for about ten minutes,” said a spokesperson for U.S. Customs. “Normally we wouldn’t pay much attention to such an occurrence but this particular vehicle was a military transport and was populated with armed men which is certainly not common. This was an official government vehicle.”
It’s not yet clear what the occupants of the vehicle had been planning or where they went after turning around but most assume it was a scouting mission.
“On the border here we see many suspicious vehicles attempt to pass through or simply turn around before reaching to crossing but many of those are obviously private vehicles. We have never seen this kind of official show of force on the United States border in at least 150 years and that is of great concern,” continued the spokesperson. “We are all very aware of the instability in Mexico and that is of course of great concern to the United States and our border security, however this type of official escalation would be something else entirely and is totally unacceptable as far as we are concerned. We have been in touch with Mexican authorities and expect and answer briefly.”
It is unlikely that one vehicle with armed men would have had much success in conquering significant portions of the U.S.
“I sincerely doubt that this itself was the invasion. If it was then the Mexican military is in much more dire straits than previously believed. However if this was indeed a scouting mission, a prelude to an invasion, then that is something else entirely and could mean a lot of trouble for people along the border,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Many people in Mexico still consider that land as having been stolen and irks them, despite the length of time. Land carries a deep cultural memory for a lot of people and many are unwilling to let go. Despite all the problems, or perhaps because of them, nationalism could become a significant tool for the Mexican government and when that happens it usually means war of some description, which is exactly what could be happening here.”
The U.S. government has already begun negotiating with Mexico, apparently already ceding New Mexico in order avoid an invasion.
