SOUTH KOREA READY TO TAKE BACK TITLE OF BEST KOREA

December 27 2010

Seoul, South Korea – For outsiders the ongoing conflict between the two Koreas is a curiosity, an intrigue almost on the level of tabloid journalism. While most recognize the potential for serious conflict, the constant sabre-rattling and the eccentricity of korean dmz guard
the North makes the conflict for many more or less a silly exercise, hardly a war or even a conflict worth worrying about. For the people of those two countries however it is something different entirely. It is not just a battle of wills or concern for safety, it is a battle of hearts and minds.

Despite great success in the six decades since the division between the two nations South Korea has long stood in the shadow of its sibling. Whether it is the rambunctious and occasionally ridiculous leadership in the North, their healthy supply of nuclear weapons, or their status an international pariah, the North has taken up most of the sir in the region despite most of their success coming at the point of a gun directed at the South. That status is something many in the South have never been happy with and since tensions between the two flared up again lately, many are pushing to finally push back, something the leadership seems more and more willing to do and finally proclaim their Korea as best Korea.Lee Myung-bak

“We have now been awakened to the realization that war can be prevented and peace assured only when such provocations are met with a strong response. Fear of war is never helpful in preventing war. Our military must respond relentlessly when they come under attack,” said President Lee Myung-bak.  “The North Koreans must have thought that their attacks could cause divisiveness in the South and that they might be able to get away with another provocation. The North Koreans must have thought that their attacks could cause divisiveness in the South and that they might be able to get away with another provocation. Our patience is limited.”

The South has been staging a series of military drills despite regular threats from the North.

“For the people of South Korea the conflict has been a profoundly affecting issue. It
isn’t just that they are in a constant state of fear and worry, and it isn’t just that south korean soldiers
entire families have been torn apart, the biggest thing is pride. Pride and self-respect are big things in Korean culture and the people in the South, all fifty million of them, have been forced to put that aside for generations and that weighs heavily,” said Scrape TV Asian analyst Wu Yao-nu. “Now they have decided to step things up, to not accept the North in ways in which they have before. While they may be using this last incident or the upcoming leadership transition as their impetus for change, it really doesn’t matter. For whatever reason they seem to be coming into their own, stepping forward boldly and finally taking what they want.”

North Korea has long been regarded as best Korea despite its small size and international reputation.kim jong il happy

“I think, frankly, that they have a long and hard road ahead of them. Aside from all those years of waiting and hibernating which is going to make them a little awkward, the North still has a few tricks up its sleeve and a whole bunch of nuclear weapons and that is going to make them a formidable opponent in the race for the title,” continued Wu. “I mean this whole thing is totally unofficial of course but it really does matter to the people involved. It may not matter to the world at large but to the people of these two countries, being the best Korea is a really important thing.”

Nearby Taiwan is apparently ready to fight for title of best China, a fight most people expect them to lose.
