THE LAST OF MEXICO’S POLICE FORCE CALLS IT QUITS AFTER ATTACK

Los Ramones, Mexico – Police are, and always have been, the dividing line between right and wrong. They are the enforcers of law and through that they enforce the organization of society. They constantly walk the line between the criminal elements 
that constantly threaten to through our world into chaos and the civilized world that the majority of us try to enjoy, free of crime and criminals and others who would seek to make the world a miserable place to live.
Larger than just enforcing laws, police are the backbone of cultured society, allowing people to live in relative peace and harmony, to raise their children and engage in higher pursuits free from those who would seek anarchy and chaos. Without police, simply, there would be no society. We would rely on the good will of our fellow man which, time has proven again and again, can be a folly of immense proportions. However that appears to be exactly what Mexico is doing after the last police force in the city decided to resign after a vicious attack by drug gangs. Under constant attack from the spiralling drug war in the country, the Los Ramones force was the last bulwark for government control leaving the country a lawless state and leaving no one, not even the politicians, apparently interested in doing anything about it.
“Fortunately, those who were inside the building threw themselves on the ground and nobody was hurt. There were about 1000 rounds and a handful of grenades launched at the police facility. This was a frightening attack to be sure but luckily we got away with only a little property damage,” said Mayor Santos Salinas. “Unfortunately the attack prompted the entire department to disband. We were very proud to be the last city in the country with a functioning police force but now we are much like every other city, which is sad, but is the way it is. We will adjust just as everyone else has done.”
The city has no plans to hire new police officers and have already turned the former headquarters into a brothel for the cartel.
“This has been happening all across the county in recent months. The reality is it is 
very difficult to keep a police force motivated and active when they are being shot at all the time. In the early days of the cartel wars there was a great effort made to retain police officers but it simply became too costly and many cities and states abandoned the idea,” said Scrape TV Crime analyst Willard Weston. “The reality of policing in Mexico at the best of times is nothing like it is in places like the United States. For them it’s really just a matter of which economic situation makes the most sense. The cartels pay better and they have fewer bullets flying at them. They also have a great pension and medical plan and so many people make the sensible conclusion and switch sides.”
Mexican police are generally paid in pesos but pension plans are generally burrito based, a long standing issue for country.
“It’s clear now that many people simply feel safer with the cartels than they do with the
police. Aside from the fact that many of the people who were once police are now working with the cartels, the reality is there are fewer bullets whizzing around when the police aren’t around which makes things safer for everyone,” continued Weston. “In the long term this may indeed swim up and bite them in the butt but for now there is an equilibrium that everyone seems content to live with. I mean Mexico at the best of times wasn’t exactly Switzerland, frankly most people haven’t even noticed a difference except for fewer traffic tickets.”
Mexican President Felipe Calderón campaigned on a platform of police reduction in the 2006 election.
