UN SANCTIONS ON LIBYA SEIZES GADDAFI HOUSE IN THE HAGUE
February 27 2011
New York, NY – The United Nations Security Council voted yesterday, in the first unanimous vote in history, to impose a series of sanctions on Libya and the Gaddafi family in an effort to curb violence in that country which has been escalating over the

last week. With a 15-0 vote, the restrictions are some of the most severe placed on the nation which has been subject to multiple actions through the 42-year rule of Gaddafi.
While details of the sanctions are currently developing, travel bans and asset seizes have already been implemented against the ruling party and members of the Gaddafi family. The measures also called upon the Libyan government to step down and cede control to a civilian government. Thus far, the U.N. resolution appears to have had little impact on the Gaddafi regime or on the rapidly deteriorating situation on the ground, but many are confident that the long term effects of the sanctions will eventually turn the situation around. Specifically, many have focussed on the overseas assets of Gaddafi himself which may include billions of dollars and properties in multiple countries. One of those properties was apparently a scheduled destination for Gaddafi before the uprising began, a spring getaway in The Netherlands just outside The Hague.
“This was a necessary action against the Libyan government and the Gaddafi regime. These sanctions will be one of the most severe ever levied against a country and they must have the effect of ceasing these actions against the people of Libya. These measures show that we in the world stand with the people of Libya and not the government and the regime,” said a U.N. insider. “The immediate effect of these actions is to remove all possibility of travel in and out of the country but also to prevent funds from being transferred into and out of the country. We have it on good authority that Gaddafi had planned to vacation in The Netherlands but those tickets have been refunded and his residence there turned over to the government.”
Gaddafi reportedly had a multi-million dollar estate just outside The Hague, though he preferred to stay in a ten in the backyard when in the area.
“The events that are occurring in Libya are really unprecedented in an open society.
Obviously the world is aware of countries such as Myanmar, North Korea, Iran, and even China but this is a situation where there is real access, where something can be done to prevent a further tragedy,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “Frankly I think it’s unlikely that he would have made his annual trip abroad considering everything that has been happening and so the sanctions themselves may have little effect. I’m sure it will weigh heavily on their minds especially because they assume they can come out of this with no harm done, but of course that isn’t going to be the case.”
Gaddafi also has homes in Venezuela, Sudan, and a half dozen other countries around the world.
“Travel ban or no I think it’s going to be very tough for Gaddafi to go anywhere right now without drawing a lot of attention. The situation in Libya is really a global event and that has put him squarely in the spotlight of millions of people which makes pitching a tent really tough,” continued Hander. “Who knows, when all this shakes out there may be some relief. He may not actually be willing to die to protect his position no matter what he says and that means, at the end of all of this, a well earned vacation. He may end up in The Hague after all.”
Gaddafi is apparently already packed.
