VLADIMIR PUTIN AND WIFE MOVE INTO THE FIRST MOTEL 6 IN RUSSIA
October 19 2010
Moscow, Russia – Over the last decade or so Vladimir Putin has garnered a very distinct reputation. As a former KGB agent in the much feared Soviet Union, Putin was considered a hard liner upon taking the office of President in 2000. While he has
certainly been a reminder of the Russian Bear that once terrorized the West, Putin’s work as leader has actually brought dramatic changes to his country. Economic reforms have transformed the once floundering economy and the nation has moved from an unstable burden to a contributing member of global society.
Putin has had criticisms to be sure, principally over heavy-handed actions in place like Chechnya and Georgia, but the fear that he would turn to country back into the hulking Soviet menace once again has not come to pass. While Russia, whether under Putin’s thumb or not, may never fully come into western-style thinking it is clear that the fearsome menace that once dominated the region simply doesn’t exist anymore. That is also due in large part to Putin who, despite his steely exterior and tense Slavic visage, is actually a relatively simple man who enjoys hunting, fishing, and now it appears lives in very humble settings after he and his wife, Lyudmila, moved into the recently opened Motel 6 just around the corner from the Kremlin.
“We are very, very proud to have opened our first Motel outside North America. We
are even more proud that we have had the honour of placing that hotel in one of them most historic cities in the world, a city that sees millions of visitors every year,” said a spokesperson for Accor, the parent company of Motel 6. “When Prime Minister Putin heard that we were placing a hotel in the city he called us immediately and asked if we would be able to rent him and his wife a room as soon as the motel opened. We were of course more than pleased to have such a distinguished guest in our hotel and they will be welcome to stay as long as they wish.”
The Putin’s were apparently fond of staying in the motels during their various visits to the United States while visiting President George W. Bush. Some though aren’t happy about the new residents.
“Frankly, the walls are paper thin. I know that’s the case with most motels but generally speaking people respect that. They don’t want their noises to be broadcast just as much as we don’t want to hear them. Unfortunately the Putin’s don’t feel that way,” said Maria Wasser who recently visited the city from her home in Miami. “I’ve been in hotels and motels all around the world and I have heard some strange things but nothing like what I heard from the Putins; screaming, yelling, power tools, barking dogs, splashing water, and this strange sound that was almost like someone rubbing a beach ball, for hours. It was very strange not something I’d like to engage in again.
We had intended to stay for a full week but we checked out after the second night.”
Lyudmila reportedly spends more time in the motel than her husband but both were in the room at the time.
“We always respond to these kinds of customer complaints and we always will. We did not hear of this complaint until this time and so we cannot act upon it. If we knew of these problems we would act, this is what we do,” said Gregory, manager of the motel. “However we must not allow people to disparage the Prime Minister and his wife. Were this claims proven true then we might act upon them, but because it is only these people’s word we cannot allow such lies to continue. This must not be allowed to continue. The Putins are very welcome guests in our hotel.”
Lyudmila reportedly has tendency to leave used underwear in the ice machine and apparently demands that other guests give her change for the pop machine, claiming that her husband is very thirsty and needs a drink right away.
