BRITAIN AN EASY TARGET AS THEY RUN OUT OF MONEY

May 10 2011

London, U.K. – For a time the United Kingdom was the most powerful empire the planet had ever seen. Ruling more territory than anyone else in history, boasting a more than formidable military force, and essentially dictating the terms to the global british lion
economy, one could argue that at her peak the kingdom was the most dominant force on her world in history. Today the economic and military might of the United States is undeniable, but unlike her parent nation, the U.S. has never been able to expand or even firmly declare a war won, unlike the U.K.

The effect of that influence has been seen all across the world, particularly in her children including the aforementioned United States. The long lasting influence of the British Empire is testament to her power and dominance over the globe, even if those hey days are long left behind. Still, the U.K. has remained a potent power in the world but according to the new defence secretary that may not last for much longer. In an interview with The Daily Telegraph, Secretary Liam Fox stated that the country is rapidly running out of the financial resources required to defend the country against all the threats present in the world, something that has piqued the interest of former rivals such as France and Germany.

“We don’t have the money as a country to protect ourselves against every potential future threat. We just don’t have it. We have to look at where we think the real risks will come from, where the real threats will come from and we need to deal with that accordingly. The Russians are not going to come over the European plain any day soon,” Fox said. “I would say, what do Challenger tanks in Germany and the costs of british money
maintaining them and the personnel required to train for them, what does that contribute to what’s happening in Afghanistan? The country is in an economic crisis, defence cannot be exempted from it.”

It’s expected that the Ministry of Defence will see a budget cut in the neighbourhood of 20 percent with the Navy, Britain’s pride and joy, likely to see the lowest reductions.

“For decades Britain ruled half the world at the end of a barrel but that hasn’t been the case for a very long time. It isn’t just the other nations displacing her position, it’s more mundane things, the types of things that undo all empires. Taxes, supply costs, and internal strife have all contributed to the collapse of the Empire and her current status in the world,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “That is just the reality of the modern world. Maintaining a global empire with sailing ships is far more cost effective than maintaining one with fuel burning ships. The gradual shrinking of the Empire has eroded their economic base and in order to maintain the standard of living that people desire, they have gone into massive debt which has caused these current problems.”

The U.K. will likely still remain among the world’s leading militaries even at the newly diminished levels.

“Having the history that the United Kingdom has had it’s inevitable that they will have angela merkel
gained a few enemies. Even countries with whom they have had normalized relations in recent years have this long history so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them come knocking now that they have basically mothballed their military,” continued Hander. “The country has a strong population of highly educated people and a formidable infrastructure which would make them an appealing takeover target and one very easy to damage for someone who was so inclined. I would put France, Germany, the Netherland, and possibly even the U.S. even though they won the last war. It was probably a mistake for Fox to say those things in public.”

India has reportedly began a series of naval exercises only hours after the comments though denied that the two events were related.
