CHINESE GOVERNMENT BANS ALL FORMS OF TIME TRAVEL
April 16 2011
Beijing, China – There was a time in the long distant past when China was the leader of social innovation in the East. While the Romans built aqueducts and the Greeks invented almost everything, dynasties in China were reshaping Asia and helping to
make it into the region it has become today. For centuries Chinese influence spread far and wide but it was never uniform, never consistent. China in that time period did not exist as a nation like we know it today but rather as feudal tribes, constantly fighting between one another.
It wasn’t until the 20th century that China became a cohesive nation with the founding of the Republic, and eventually its successor the People’s Republic, and started to fully embrace its place in the world. Now as one of the most influential nations on the planet, China has started to become the nation that the great Emperors of the past could never have created in those chaotic days. Like any growth in power though, the rise of China hasn’t been without its challenges. Economic and social imbalance, claims of human rights abuses, and the concentrated effort to control the way people think and behave have all provided challenges for the nation, challenges that they have always faced head on. Now the leaders of the nation have proactively faced another challenge, hoping to prevent any would be rebel from undoing all their efforts, at least undoing them in the past, by banning time travel.
“For many years the time-travel drama is becoming a hot theme for TV and films but its content and the exaggerated performance style are questionable. Many stories are totally made-up and are made to strain for an effect of novelty yet they provide people with a false sense of the real world,” said a government spokesperson. “We will now actively discourage such depictions in television and film and in all other forms. We do not want people to follow these fantastic examples of how to live one’s lives which could have a detrimental effect on their person.”
Though the government only detailed the ban on fictional depictions of time travel, the government has also enacted laws to ban the process in the real world.
“My laboratory was shut down, in the middle of the night. We were closed and when

we showed up to work in the morning it was emptied and there were police officers waiting for us. We spent three days in detention being asked many kinds of questions. I now clean up the streets in Beijing,” said one local man who preferred to remain anonymous. “We had explored the ideas of time travel but only in theory. We were not working on such a plan and we had no desire to pursue such research but now we are without a laboratory and without funding and we still do not understand why entirely.”
The man said that if he could go back in time and not discuss time travel he would do so.
“Time travel, should it actually be possible, would be very dangerous for a lot of people

but perhaps most importantly for governments. There is no guarantee that a person who would travel back in time would be doing so for some innocuous reason. It’s possible, even likely, that they could be pursing their own political ambitions and desires,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “Such activity could destabilize any government and in the case of China, where specific controls are put into place to affect specific responses, it could throw the future of the system into disarray. All governments should have issues with time travel, but a government like China has a lot more to lose than many others. After all, they remember all too well what the past was like.”
The Chinese ban applies to all future productions as well as those which have already been made.
