GADDAFI WELCOMES EUROPEAN AND AMERICAN VISITORS WITH OPEN ARMS

March 19 2011

Tripoli, Libya – For decades Libya has been a no-man’s land. With rampant terrorism, poverty, and general instability throughout the country it has become a global pariah, associated with the perception of a mad dictator and a populace fiercely gaddafi wacky
loyal to that madness. As we have seen over the course of the last month at least the latter of those two perceptions are a little skewed with thousands actively rebelling against the leadership, paving the way for what many believe is a new Libya.

While it is certainly unlikely that the country will become a tourist paradise anytime soon, the growing instability in the nation has prompted outside observers for the first time in a long time to speculate that real change may be coming to the African nation. Now though, following the adoption of a new U.N. resolution, it appears that a new attitude towards travel to the country has already begun with multiple groups already in country or approaching the coastline. Travel groups from France, Britain, Canada, and the United States are amongst the first travellers to the country, and they have been apparently warmly welcomed by all sides of the new Libya including President Muammar Gaddafi who has embraced the new visitors.gaddafi sarkozy

“We are very happy to have all travellers in our country. Libya is a great nation filled with great people and great wonders to see. We have always been very eager to welcome travellers to our shores no matter which country they come from. Libya is a nation of the world and we welcome visitors from everywhere with open arms,” said a spokesperson for the Libyan government. “We of course welcome our European neighbours but also our brothers and sisters from across the ocean. We hope that this is only the beginning of a new way for people to see Libya and for people to feel safe and welcome travelling to our great nation.”

Aside from the tour groups currently in the country, Libya has actively extended invitations to Chinese and Russian visitors.

“Libya has been one of those countries that has been very much a blight on the travel
landscape for a lot of years, as has been the case unfortunately for a great number of libya travellers
African nations, but that appears to be something on the verge of changing and that is a good thing. The country is possessed of incredible beauty that has been sheltered from the rest of the world for a long time and finally we will have access to that,” said Scrape TV African analyst Claude Contee. “These visitors being flown into the country are merely the first wave of what will inevitably be a huge influx of visitors to the country. It makes sense that it is these countries becoming the first foreign tourists in the country in so long considering their nature as globe trekkers, and speaks to the long term health of the Libyan tourist industry.”

French planes were the first in the country after President Sarkozy declared the country open for new flights.libya old market

“This new attitude towards travel in the region could very well change the fate of much of the African continent, it could pave the way for travel from foreign countries to places like Sudan or even Ivory Coast in ways that people simply haven’t been able to do in recent years. Hopefully the leadership there will be as welcoming as the Libyan government,” continued Contee. “Of course they still have Libya to conquer so there is no sense in getting ahead of ourselves. Once travel to Libya is firmly established they can extend outwards from there, spreading tourism across the continent and perhaps even the world.”

Gaddafi has reportedly opened an invitation for the foreign travellers to come to Tripoli in short order.
