GREECE READY TO LEAVE EU AND EVERYONE OKAY WITH THAT

May 6 2011

Athens, Greece – Breakups are never an easy thing to do or to experience. No matter the circumstances and no matter how mature the two parties involved may be, the fracture of a tight relationship is always going to be a little difficult to accept. break up
Occasionally, rarely, breakups work for the benefit of both parties involved, even if they don’t see it at the time, but usually breakups are one sided, resulting in one side being hurt.

There are those rare cases though, when a breakup is actually the best thing for both sides, and that appears to be exactly what is happening between Greece and the rest of the EU. Struck with economic chaos, austerity measures, and regular protests, the once great nation that created the modern world has been on the verge of collapse for years, due at least in part to their inability to keep up with other Euro zone members. Now it appears that the nation is considering withdrawing from the common European currency and returning to the Drachma, something which, at least on the surface, is meeting with a lot of resistance from other EU member states. However, the move, which comes shortly after a massive bailout from the Union, is being greeted with a great deal acceptance from the rest of the EU, at least in private.

“There is no doubt that leaving the Euro would be disastrous for Greece, a total disaster, and they want the country to know that. They are still a part of the Union and really they would like the country to stay, but in the end those efforts a little half-hearted. They are warning them, but Greece really hasn’t listened in years,” said an EU parthenon
insider. “The truth is that if they leave the Euro, they will likely have to leave the Union
entirely. They can’t just take what they want and leave the rest behind. Basically if they leave, they leave entirely and that would likely mean collapse much worse than anything they’ve yet experienced.”

Some have expressed concern that the departure of Greece would prompt other such defections.

“Privately though they are pretty much okay with them leaving. It’s not the ideal situation and they would like them to stay, but if they really want to leave, well let’s just say that they aren’t going to stand in their way. I mean they know that they will eventually get over it,” continued the insider. “There is no animosity, no real upset. I mean they will miss them a little bit at least at the beginning, there have been good times, but they’ve dealt with this kind of thing before and in the grand scope, well this just isn’t that big of a deal. They’ve had worse in the past and will probably have worse in the future, so this is no big deal in the larger picture.”greek riots

There have been long standing rumours that the Union was going to ask Portugal to leave, though that has not happened as yet.

“It is time for Greece to finally stand on her own. We do realize that things will be a little difficult in the short term, but we feel that this is the best thing for us in the long term. Greece is strong and will continue to soldier on beyond this crisis,” said a Greek spokesperson. “We haven’t made a firm decision as yet, but this is where it’s going. It’s just going to take a little bit of courage to finally bite the bullet and make it happen, but it’s going to happen eventually.”

Germany has reportedly not spoken to Greece in months.
