IRAN SHEDS LAST REMNANTS OF WESTERN DECADENCE WITH BAN ON DOGS
April 24 2011
Tehran, Iran – As human beings we tend to think that our accomplishments are due not only in large part, but exclusively as a result of our strength, will, and cleverness. That everything we have in the world is solely the result of our efforts throughout the

years. However we are not alone in this world and much of the success we have gained has been a direct result of our interaction with other species of life, particularly other animals, which have helped forge our modern world.
Whether it was using horses for plowing or cows for milk and food, the work and effort of other animals has been fundamental in our evolution through the years. Our close interaction with other species has been as important as our cleverness and hard work and it continues to be even in our advanced world. While perhaps not essential to our development, our interaction with pets, namely dogs and cats, has been a major part of common experience. For centuries those animals have lived alongside us, providing us with protection, companionship, and affection. However not all cultures see pets in the same way, and now one, Iran, has proposed a bill that will effectively ban all dogs from the country in a desperate bid to stave off the type of revolution that is sweeping the region, and to rid the nation of western decadence forever.
“This bill will outlaw people living in apartments from owning dogs, and prevent all people from exercising these animals outside. In addition to posing significant health hazards, the growing dog population poses a cultural problem, a blind imitation of the vulgar Western culture,” said a spokesperson for the bill’s supporters. “There are lots
of people in the West who love their dogs more than their wives of children. These types of behaviours are unacceptable in this nation and we will not allow these decadent attitudes to overtake our great nation. We begin and end these actions today, with this bill, for now and forever.”
The bill was prompted by a growing suspicion of small dogs in particular, a favourite in western nations.
“When the revolution first went down in Iran it was clear that a number of changes were going to happen. Those changes have radically altered the nature of the Iranian culture and by extension to cultural and social nature of the people who live there. Unfortunately for the Mullahs though, there is still a great deal of affection for the west,” said Scrape TV International analyst Gustav Hander. “You look through Tehran and see satellite dishes and cell phones everywhere. Iran is a sophisticated nation with a lot of modern attitudes, and that has extended to pet ownership, particularly of the small dog variety which in many ways represents the west, and the decadence therein.”
The bill was particular concerned with small dogs due in large part the ability to keep them hidden with relative ease.
“What has been shown in Iran is that the removal of artifacts of culture do not dramatically alter the culture itself. That has been tried again and again, not just in that country but around the world, and it has little effect in the long run. In Iran it is Pomeranians, in the west it was Elvis, but it is often the same thing,” continued Hander. “Of course in our present times, with revolutions sweeping across the Muslim world, governments need to do everything they can to ensure that their nations are safe and if that means taking away people’s dogs, even if it only delays the revolution, well then they have no real choice do they?”
Ahead of the bill being passed, Iranian officials have order the construction of hundreds of special train cars for the transport of confiscated pets.
