JAPANESE VILLAGE STANDS STRONG AGAINST TSUNAMI FORCES

May 31 2011

Fudai, Japan – Natural disasters are exactly that, natural, and often we are left to the whims of that all powerful force when it decides to throw a tantrum. All around the world most of the worst stories of human tragedy and loss are not in terrorist attacks japan tsunami
or wars, but in stories of floods, hurricanes, and earthquakes. As much damage as we do to one another, the earth can do far more damage in far less time, no matter how well we prepare.

That type of destruction was clearly on display when the massive earthquake and Tsunami rocked the north of Japan back in March. The destruction of entire towns and the destabilizing of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant showed the awesome power that the Earth is able to unleash, more damage than even our worst weapons could ever accomplish. Amidst all the horror and bloodshed though there was, as there often is, stories of great human kindness and triumph. From across the country there were stories of people being found alive days after the quake, found often by foreigners who descended on the damaged region to help their fellow human beings in a time of need. These are the good things that come from disaster, the light in the darkness. Now comes the tale of another such beacon, the village that stood tall and defied the Tsunami just as it has done for centuries against all foreign invaders.samurai man

“The town of Fudai stands string and tall. We have pushed off and opposed this invader which has laid waste to the world around us. This is a grand victory for our town, but we take it with humility. This is our duty, to protect,” said village Mayor Hiroshi Fukawatari. “We stand when others fall, this is our duty. To protect our women and children against all. Now we will press outwards and take others into our protection, for this we are duty and honour bound. This is our mission.”

Fudai had established a robust floodgate system in the 1970’s, something deemed wasteful in their time.

“We are very thankful to the town fathers for protecting us from this tragedy. We are very grateful to the Gods for providing us with the shield and sword that has preserved our lives. We now take our lives and dedicate them to the betterment of the community which helped save us all,” said a local fisherman. “Without the protection of those who saw the coming flood we would not be here today. Now is a time of sorrow for those who did not survive, but also a time of rejoicing for those who did. We stand guard here, samurai
ready to defend all those who need defending. This is our honour and our duty. We stand ready against the wave for the next time it decides to attack our borders.”

All surrounding towns were engulfed in the waves.

“This really is a tribute to foresight and good planning, but also a good deal of luck. True, without the floodgates the town would have drowned, but other towns had the same things and they went under. If the earthquake had been just a little more powerful I think it’s very likely that Fudai would have gone under as well, sorry to say,” said Scrape TV Disaster analyst Walter Lim. “There is a great deal of pride throughout the town, and rightfully so, but it is probably luck and not will power and might that kept the water out. It’s great that they survived and all but this is water. It’s a little difficult to fight water.”

The Tsunami forces could not be reached for comment.
