LAURENT GBAGBO HAPPILY STEPS DOWN AFTER FOUR MONTH TRANSITION PROCESS

April 11 2011

Abidjan, Ivory Coast –  Despite it being the ancestral home of all human beings, Africa as a continent has been left behind almost the entire world. Perhaps symbolic of our long ago exodus from the savannah, the people that have come to live in Europe, starving boy africa
Asia, Australia, and the Americas have risen while Africa has fallen. Much of the continent has been left behind through the centuries just as it was left behind all those years ago by our ancestors.

Of course, unlike those early travels of humankind we have not utterly ignored our birthplace. Countries all over the world have been heavily involved in the affairs of most countries in Africa, as evidenced most recently by the coalition air strikes in Libya, but still that continent has been largely left behind. That separation from the rest of the world has in turn led directly to the ongoing isolation of the continent whether western nations like to admit it or not, burdening the countries with dictators and poverty. Of course the rest of the world does not bear all the responsibility for the problems of Africa, and should not, leading to the assumption of some of that burden by the people themselves. That effort has been largely lacking in many countries, but now in one embattled nation, The Ivory Coast, a breakthrough coalition between domestic and foreign forces has sparked a breakthrough, due in large part to the now former President’s careful and patient transition to a new government which was finalized today.laurent gbagbo un

“This is a great day for the country of The Ivory Coast and for all our people. This is a grand event, a true tribute to the Ivorian people and a celebration of our democratic system,” said a spokesperson for Laurent Gbagbo who officially ceded power after a four month transition. “This is a tribute to the will of the people of this country and to the democratic system in our country which is alive and well. Mr. Gbagbo gleefully accepts his new role as a private system and welcomes to the new President to his offices.”

Gbagbo lost the most recent election to Alassane Ouattara in November but only officially took office on Monday.

“The transition from one government to another is never an easy thing. I remember shrink wrapped desk
years ago when George W. Bush took over as President in the United States there were reports that the outgoing staff played all kinds of pranks like gluing phone receivers down and hiding the staplers. Even in the greatest democracy in the world these types of things can happen,” said Scrape TV African analyst Claude Contee. “Obviously what has happened in The Ivory Coast is a little different, I mean there was far more rape and mass murder in that transition than there was in the Clinton-Bush hand off but that is simply the politics of the land. This is very much democracy African style.”laurent gbagbo ivory coast

More than a 1000 people were killed in the transition process and million fled the country. There are no official numbers on rapes, dismemberments, or other incidents of bodily harm.

“This has definitely been a long and drawn out transference of power, though not totally unusual in Africa, but it is a good thing for the people of the country that it has finally ended and that they can now move forward,” continued Contee. “It is a tribute to the democratic process and to Gbagbo himself that they were able to successfully hand off this Presidency. It certainly took a little longer than most people expected, but then what good things don’t.”

The Ouattara government is expected the release figures of the number of people set on fire through the transition process early next week.
