PAKISTANI INTELLIGENCE REMOVES BIN LADEN BUNNIES FROM FAMILY

May 4 2011

Abbottabad, Pakistan – Everyone all around the world is reacting to death of Osama bin Laden in totally different ways. For many the killing of the terrorist leader is a triumph of the civilized world, redemption for all rational and free people. For others it bin laden
is precarious thing, a potential spark in a room filled with gasoline. There are others as well who see the killing as an attack on them and their way of life, and for that they are vowing revenge, much like the United States did a decade ago.

For the people of the affluent suburb where he was killed, the reaction is a little more complex. For the most part it is shock that the most wanted person in the world was living in their neighbourhood, but for some the loss is much more personal. Case-in-point is 12-year old Zarar Ahmed who has become famous in his little town for his repeated interaction with the bin Laden family, in particular the gifting of a pair of bunnies from the Al-Qaeda leader. For him the loss is particular potent, having seen a different side of bin Laden than just about everyone else. Adding to that loss is the removal of those two rabbits from the boy’s home by Pakistani intelligence forces, as well as increased attention on the Ahmed family.

“They were very nice people. They were always very nice to the children in the city and gave us all kinds of things, not just the bunnies. They always let us play outside the zara ahmed
walls and never told us to go away, they were always very nice to us,” said Ahmed only hours after having his bunnies removed. “The police, they came and told us that the rabbits had to be taken away. They asked us many questions about the house and the people inside, and then they took the rabbits away. I do not know what happened to them and I am scared that they will be injured.”

Pakistani intelligence had no comment on the seizure. The ISI has been under enormous pressure in the days following the killing of bin Laden.

“I think it’s very unlikely that these bunnies had any kind of significant intelligence regarding Al-Qaeda operations or operatives, but in cases like these the best reaction is to overact. You can always apologize later if you offend someone but you don’t want to risk losing potentially important information,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “It’s clear that there has been a bit of failure by the ISI in this particular situation and it’s entirely possible that they are simply overacting to the criticism, but there may be totally valid reasons for seizing these rabbits. Unfortunately because of the nature of intelligence gathering, we may never know what information they may collect from the animals.”

It’s believed the rabbits went with the agents without struggle.rabbits

“Hopefully these rabbits will eventually be released, relatively unharmed. They are after all simply rabbits and have been caught up in this mess just like so many other people. Frankly, there have been so many innocent victims since 9/11 it would be shame to see any more now that the man who caused it has been killed,” continued Davids. “I’m sure people will continue suffer but maybe now that he is dead, maybe some people will find peace. Of course if these rabbits know something, well than that’s a totally different story and one that may open up an entirely new avenue for tracking down terrorist forces.”

The ISI reportedly also seized known affiliates of the bunnies.
