PRINCE CHARLES STILL WAITING PATIENTLY FOR INVITE TO ROYAL WEDDING
April 20 2011
London, U.K. – Marriage is a uniquely human experience, and one that most humans consider to be amongst the most important events in their lives. While much cynicism about the institution has certainly arisen in recent years, due in large part to rising
divorce numbers, the affection for marriage has never really abated. There is no better example of that than in the upcoming nuptials between Prince William and Kate Middleton whose path to wedded bliss has quickly become one of the most followed and scrutinized romances of all time.
A truly global event, millions, perhaps even billions, of people will be watching the exchange of those vows on April 29th all over the world. For most people it is a television only affair, watching the future King and Queen joined in wedded bliss, but for a lucky few it will be a first person experience. Friends, family, and dignitaries from all over the globe will descend on Westminster Abbey to experience the wedding first hand. Unfortunately one person, the Prince’s father, is apparently being left in the cold. Only days before the wedding word has started to spread that Prince Charles has not received an official invitation, and while few would not expect him to be in attendance, many are fearful that the Heir Apparent to the throne will be on the sidelines, watching patiently as things go one around him.
“Charles fully intends to be at the ceremony, but yes it is true he has not received an official invitation. I think most people just assume he will be there which is why he was
left off the list. I don’t think William and Kate did it deliberately, it was probably just an oversight,” said a Royal insider. “He’ll be there, I mean how could he not be? I just hope that’s he’ll have a seat. It would be really awkward to shuffle around dignitaries to accommodate him. I guess he could just stand at the back.”
The next in line to the throne, Charles just recently gained the record for the longest regent-in-waiting in British history.
“It will be a little more difficult at the reception. That is a much smaller affair and it’s going to be a challenge shifting all the chairs around to find a place for him. Hopefully the staff will keep some folding chairs on hand just in case he decides to show up,” continued the insider. “Either way, I’m sure this will be a very happy day for him. It is his son after all and this is for many parents the culmination of their efforts. Whether he is in the Abbey or sitting at home watching, I’m sure he will be very happy for his son and new wife. This is wonderful day for Wills and Kate, but also for Charles and I don’t think he’ll miss it.”
The Queen will be in attendance, front row.
“I think that outside the marriage of his mother and father, this is likely going to be the most celebrated marriage across the globe for a long time, maybe forever. The monarchy is most certainly waning and I would bet that in thirty years when the next crown prince or princess is ready to marry it simply won’t be a big deal. This is the last of these big events, so it would be good for Dad to be there,” said Scrape TV British analyst Nigel Northington. “I say damn the torpedoes. If the invite doesn’t show up, he should just march down to the Abbey and demand to be let in. I mean what are they going to do? He probably won’t of course. He’ll probably just be content to watch it on television like everyone else. No sense making a fuss.”
Charles and wife Camilla have reportedly ordered the Royal staff to prepare lots and lots of popcorn for next week.
