REBEL FORCES TAKE DOWN CANADIAN GOVERNMENT
March 26 2011
Ottawa, Canada – At this stage few will debate that 2011 is the year of the rebellion. What began as a small protest in a small city in a small country half a world away has cascaded across a region and spread across the globe. The self-immolation by that
one solitary fruit vendor in Tunisia, a second page item in most newspapers, has become a world-changing event on par with the assassination of Franz Ferdinand or the introduction of rat fleas to Europe, small events that upended the world.
While the ongoing rebellions moving across the Arab world are still unfolding, and their ultimate impact still yet to be measured, the events there have already started to impact the global community as evidenced by coalition and NATO efforts in Libya. Those actions in turn have engendered debates in their home countries, setting the stage for massive political upheaval, something that appears to have already happened in one nation. In a historic motion the government of Canada, one of the lead participants in the Libyan conflict, has fallen in the face of protest, setting the stage for the potential fall of other western nations and their leaders.
“This is a momentous day in Canadian history and something that needed to happen. We do this for the Canadian people and to make the government stand for what is right, not just for themselves but also for the people. They must understand that the government does not exist for the governors but rather for the people and since they have betrayed the trust the people have placed in them, they must answer for their actions,” said Michael Ignatieff, leader of one rebel group. “Gone are the times when the oppressive Harper regime can wreak havoc over the lives of ordinary Canadians. They have lost the faith and confidence of the Canadian people and they will pay for those actions. This is the first stage of a new period in the history of this country.”
The government had been found guilty of, among other things, covering up financial details amongst other accounting issues.
“This year is unlike anything we have ever seen before really. There was certainly
tension brewing in a number of these countries but that had been the case for a lot of years. There was no reason to assume that it was going to boil over this year in particular because it simply hadn’t done so for so many years previous, but here we are,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “The odd thing is that it isn’t just occurring in unstable countries but we are also seeing it happen in places like Egypt and Canada, which most certainly had problems but were not nearly as problematic as other places like, say, Syria. That either means hard times ahead for those more troubled governments or nothing at all. Can’t really predict this stuff.”
Unrest similar to the Canadian issues has been seen in Portugal, Spain, and the United States.
“There is no way to create a perfect model that will predict this type of thing. There are so many factors going on at any point that you can only predict that something will happen at some point but you simply cannot predict where a catalyst will occur. People set themselves on fire in Arab countries all the time but why did this one prompt a revolution? That is something that will be debated for a long time to come,” continued Martinez. “One thing that is absolutely without debate is that we will be seeing more and more of this. The trend has started and it is going to continue and now it is just a matter of where it stops, and where it stops nobody knows.”
Stephen Harper, the embattled Canadian Prime Minister, is reportedly in seclusion at an Ottawa-area home.
