TENSIONS BETWEEN ARMENIA AND GEORGIA REACH PEAK WITH INTERNET ATTACK

April 10 2011

Armazi, Georgia – Despite a great deal of sophistication and cooperation across Europe there are still many tensions and stresses across the continent. Some of those issues are current problems, debates over energy resources or border fur covered motorcycle
disputes, but because of the long and problematic history between many nations a great deal of the problems for many countries go back a long way. Those old ethnic debates are things that have consistently provided obstacles to modern peace, and are things that don’t seem to be resolving themselves anytime soon.

Those tensions are often most apparent in Eastern Europe where affluence and sophistication has remained elusive, resulting indulgence in many of those old tensions with relatively little negative results. Decades of subjugation by Soviet powers has left many of those countries far behind the western part of the continent, which in turn has led to snap reactions to indiscretions. That tension has been very much on display after a recent incident between Georgia and Armenia when the former accidently cut off internet access for the former. The incident, which apparently involved a pensioner cutting through a fibre optic cable, cut off internet access to all of Armenia for nearly twelve hours, and has resulted in rising tension between the two neighbours, tensions that many fear could result in a major conflict between the two countries.Hayastan Shakarian

“We have been able to trace this incident back to an accidental severing of the fibre optic cable connected to Armenia. We believe that the person who severed this cable, Hayastan Shakarian, was scavenging for scrap metal when she happened upon the cable. It’s not clear at this stage if she was aware of what she was doing. She has been charged with damaging private property,” said a spokesperson for the Georgian government. “We will investigate this case with diligence and we will ensure that the person or persons responsible for these actions will be punished to the fullest extent of the law.”

Shakarian, 75, claims she did not cut the cable and does not even know about the internet.old computer

“These types of actions are utterly unacceptable. This incident cut off access to millions of people for many hours and we are being expected to believe it was simply an accident by a poor confused old woman. As we all know the first line of an attack, of an invasion, is to cut off communications to the country being attacked, which is what we believed was occurring,” said an Armenian spokesperson. “We do not wish to see some old woman punished for the actions of the government. These are tactics Georgia has used many times and we will not accept some excuses for their actions. They have attacked the sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia and these are not actions we are willing to tolerate. This is where we put our foot down, now and forever.”

Armenia mobilized portion of their military forces, about twenty soldiers and three jeeps, to respond to any potential invasion from the south.

“I think that eventually these tension will subside, at least I hope so. Ultimately it does world of warcraft
no one any good to start a battle over a little internet outage, as important as the internet is, when it has become apparent that this was not an attempt at invasion,” said Scrape TV International Conflict analyst Mario Martinez. “The story is certainly suspicious. I mean who would buy that some poor old woman, who is ethnically Armenian by the way, accidentally dug up the lone cable into the country and cut it in two. The story is far too pat to be true, suggesting that something else entirely is going on, but sometimes you have to back down and live to fight another day and I think this is one of those times.”

There is apparently no truth to the rumour that a rogue group of ‘World of Warcraft’ players were responsible for the shut off.
