U.S. HAS NO IMMEDIATE PLANS TO FLY PLANE INTO FORMER BIN LADEN ESTATE
May 8 2011
Abbottabad, Pakistan – There are many complex details of the raid on Osama bin Laden’s secret compound that may end up being more important than the death of the leader itself, but as yet most of that hasn’t become clear. Perhaps the biggest
issue will be the further fracturing of the relationship between Pakistan and the United States which has been pushed to the limit in the wake of the embarrassing intelligence failure that led to bin Laden’s death.
Adding to that pressure is the incredible scrutiny visited upon everyone involved which even a week after the killing is unrelenting, stressing all the partners and pushing some to make rash decisions. The fallout over the pictures of bin Laden and details of the operation were likely just the beginning of a debate which may go on for months or even years. Now a new issue has started to appear, a debate as to what to exactly to do with the former bin Laden estate. For now the compound is still a crime scene, but more and more it has become apparent that it is becoming an attraction for curiosity seekers and a shrine for the dedicated, much like the former World Trade Center site. That of course is bringing to issue the debate as to what to do with the building but as yet no decisions have been made despite rumours that the United States had planned to smash into the building with a giant passenger plane.
“Any decisions as to what to do with the site will be made by the Pakistani government, in close collaboration with the United States of course. Right now we are

still trying to work out the details of that relationship, and from there we will figure out what to do with the location,” said a U.S. government insider. “Obviously we are going to have to do something with it. We can’t allow this to be a shrine for terrorist groups and sympathizers, but it has started to become a tourist attraction which would really benefit the town. It’s going to be a hard decision.”
Currently the estate is guarded by Pakistani military forces.
“One thing is for certain though, in this case the United States will not be taking the same kind of unilateral action against the compound. It was necessary to get bin Laden, but while this building does provide potential problems, it is not nearly as dire as the occupants were,” continued the insider. “We have no plans and any reports of us slamming anything into the side of the building are completely false. We have no plans to bomb the building or fly anything into it. Admittedly, it would be poetically fitting, but there are much easier and much safer ways to destroy a building than blowing it up. Besides, it’s not like anyone would be surprised at this stage.”
There have been reports that the Pakistanis are considering a plan to give guided tours of the compound or possibly make it the centre of a new terrorism theme park.
“In the end, the building itself doesn’t really matter. Rarely do these place become anything important to anyone but real wackos. Generally speaking, people go back to their lives pretty quickly and they forget about these types of things. However, it would probably be a bad idea to encourage tourism,” said Scrape TV Terrorism analyst Doug Davids. “True, the relationship between the U.S. and Pakistan is not great right now but it can improve, and it’s to the benefit of both sides that it does. No one wants to see that relationship fracture even further. Well, I mean the terrorists do of course but they don’t really get a vote.”
Commuter air traffic over the city has been diverted for the time being.
