CHINESE OFFICIALS ANGRY OVER RUSSIAN WAR, JOHN EDWARDS AFFAIR

August 9 2008

Beijing, ChinaOlympic officials in Beijing are decrying the lack of attention the games are garnering, particularly in the US where other more pressing stories have dominated the headlines. The outbreak of war in Georgia was the first story to take the attention, happening as it did on the opening day of the games. Following shortly thereafter, news of the John Edwards affair began gaining all the media focus. On Saturday, the death of comedian Bernie Mac was getting all the attention. Officials in Beijing are being to comment on the timing of these events, hinting that were orchestrated deliberately to draw attention away from the games.

china olympics“We would like to remind people that the Olympic Games are still on and we are putting on a great show,” said a spokesperson for the Chinese Olympic committee. “The Olympic Games are a major world-wide event and should be seen on the same stage with other world happenings. Our show should not play second fiddle to other countries events.”

With the spectacular show the Chinese are putting on, and the effort that they have put into staging the show, it is understandable that they might be a little perturbed by taking the silver or even the bronze in the media.

“This is China’s time to shine on the world stage, their kind of coming out party. It is ironic that nations such as Russia and The United, two nations that have the most to lose by China becoming a major world power States, have taken all the media attention,” said Scrape TV sports analyst Mark Marvins. “I’m sure it’s purely circumstantial but you can understand how the Chinese would be upset. Being too that they are such a superstitious people, there may be some who see it a more cosmic light.”

Some government officials don’t see anything mystical about the happening though, but rather see the Western media as biased towards the games simply because they are taking place in China. georgia war

“It is no accident that these things are happening. Both events on Friday were made by government officials, they knew very clearly what they doing. They do not want to see China become great,” said an anonymous government official. “We will see how the rest of the games go, but it is clear to us. The next story they tell once the games are over will criticize us. They simply cannot tell a good story about China.”

We placed calls to officials from the Russian government, John Edwards, and Bernie Mac, none had any comment.

“You see, they don’t speak of it. They are working together,” continued the official.
