PRICE ISN’T RIGHT AS UBISOFT SUED OVER WII GAME

December 23 2008

Hollywood, FL – Ubisoft, one of the largest and most successful video game publishers in the world is being sued over a Wii title it’s likely the company never put much thought into before. With such hit franchises as ‘Splinter Cell’, ‘Prince of Persia’, and the Tom Clancy family of games, issues with the relatively minor ‘Price is Right’ game was likely the furthest thing from executive’s minds, but a Florida woman is forcing them to come on down.wii prints money

Isabelle Jacobs of Hollywood, Florida is the game publisher for an undisclosed sum after being disappointed by the recent Wii release. While many gamers don’t consider the release as anything more than shovelware (a term indicating product released exclusively for the purpose of sale with no other redeeming qualities), Jacobs complaints fall into a different category.the price is right wii

“The game was marketed as a home version of the real game show but it only goes so far. There are some small differences but he major difference is that there is no payout. If it’s to be a home version of the actual game show I should be getting a payout,” said Jacob. “It’s even got the little slot on the front that’s just like a bank machine. I should be able to get money from there. I looked in the instruction booklet, I looked on video game website but it doesn’t tell you anywhere how to get your payout. I want my payout. I won those showcases fair and square.”

Jacobs was unable to give further comment after being interrupted by her lawyer. For references sake, the slot on the front of the Wii is not in fact a money dispenser but the opening for the disc drive. Nintendo nor Ubisoft have ever made a claim that the Wii is capable of doubling as an ATM.

“For Nintendo and successful third parties like Ubisoft the Wii has in metaphorical terms been printing money, but that doesn’t render it suddenly able to actual distribute cash and prizes,” said Scrape TV Gaming analyst Graeme Hawthorne. “Some people also seem to be under the impression that bank machines are magical money producers but they actually have to have someone come and insert money into them in order for them to be able to then dispense the cash when requested. I sincerely doubt this woman has had any brinks trucks show up at her door with people trying to insert money into her system. If she has, she might want to take a look around the house and make sure all her other stuff is still there.”Satoru Iwata

Officials for Nintendo have declined to comment on the suit pending litigation, but insiders indicate that the company is secretly intrigued by the idea.
“Micro-transactions have become more and more standard in today’s gaming world. From in game items to downloadable levels, charging for the extras has been a huge money maker for all the companies this generation and we think there might be possibilities here,” said our insider. “Of course we wouldn’t be able to distribute washing machines and cars through the system, but the idea of distributing real world currency and limited goods is an intriguing one. What if you could book your flight through your Wii? Rent a car? Buy a movie ticket? We could even use in game achievements to purchase real world goods. While I doubt we will see money spewing out of the disc slot any time soon, the possibility of extracting more dollars from each transaction is there and we will definitely be exploring our options.”

The future though is a long way off for Isabelle Jacobs and the single mother of four had been hoping that the pay off from the game would help bide her through the current financial crisis. Her lawyer would allow her no further comment and would not comment himself on the suit.Ubisoft Logo

“People really shouldn’t be laying their future or the future of their children on a videogame outcome. Really, if they are having such problems making ends meet they really shouldn’t be buying videogames. They should be putting spare cash towards bread and milk and the like,” continued Hawthorne. “It’s funny that there’s such a fuss over a title that most gamers consider worthless. Bad graphics, mediocre game play, no depth. It’s shovelware at its best and is more or less meaningless to everyone else. Of course most people don’t stake their family’s future on videogames. Maybe if they did they would understand the situation a little better.”

Officially, Nintendo recommends not putting anything but Nintendo Wii or Gamecube games in the disc slot and will not cover damage covered by inserting other objects, such as a debit card.
