DUKE NUKEM FOREVER TO BE RELEASED ALONGSIDE BIGFOOT HUNTER GAME

September 5 2010

New York, NY – In the computing world the term ‘Vapourware’ is used to describe products promised by manufacturers but for reason or another have never been released and in many cases never existed at all. Sometimes those products do hit water vapor
market, most notably Windows which was delayed multiple times and had many fearful that never existed at all, and perform in the market with that monkey on their back. True vapourware though is product that never leaves the drawing board, product that may in fact have never existed at all and was merely a ploy to trick investors. ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ was long believed to be one of those cases.

Perhaps the most famous case of assumed vapourware, ‘Duke Nukem Forever’ was announced in 1997 and despite multiple screenshots, multiple gameplay videos, and multiple promises from developers has still not hit store shelves. The game was designed as the next step in the long running ‘Duke Nukem’ series which in the 1990’s helped change the industry, ushering in the era of the first person shooter. Until now though the game was a dream, and for many a joke, that was never going to see the light of day. Now though the game’s proposed publisher, 2K Games has announced a reinvigoration of the title and that the title will finally hit store shelves sometime next year alongside the equally anticipated ‘Bigfoot Hunter’ and ‘The Secret of Loch Ness’.duke nukem hail to the king baby

“All great things take time … a lot of time. After a hiatus from the video game world, Duke Nukem is back and better than ever. The return of the King from the glory days of shooters will satisfy our patient, die-hard fans, as well as a new generation of bubble gum-chewing, flat top and shades-wearing bad-asses,” said 2K President Christoph Hartmann. “TheKing of All Shooters is back with over-the-top weapons, massive aliens and unprecedented levels of interactivity. This game puts pedal to the metal and tongue firmly in cheek, among other places. Shoot hoops, lift weights, read adult magazines, draw crude messages on whiteboards or ogle one of the many beautiful women that populate Duke’s life; that is if you can pull yourself away long enough from kicking ass and taking names.”

Developer Gearbox has taken over the production of the game from creator 3D Realms which last year announced the project dead.duke nukem

“It’s really quite a remarkable comeback, really almost too good to be true honestly which makes one think that it might very well not be true. I’m all for it but it seems odd that it has taken so long only to suddenly appear again, and at a time when the parent company is suffering,” said Scrape TV Gaming analyst Graeme Hawthorne. “I mean I’m not saying anything other than it does seem a little odd, a little too perfect considering how long this thing had been in development. I don’t know, perhaps I’m being a little cynical but we’ve been here before.”bigfoot

2K Games’ parent company, Take Two Interactive, has had many ups and downs in recent years which included a number of takeover discussions. The publisher also distributes the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ series.

“Hopefully this will see the light of day for gamers. I mean for those handful of gamers who loved the old Duke Nukem titles and aren’t bogged down with running after their teenagers or becoming grandparents this will be a big deal. For everyone else though, well it’s been a long time out of the spotlight,” continued Hawthorne. “I sincerely doubt that a major company like this would announce the game if they weren’t actually going to release it but, well, you never know. These are some of the mysteries of the world.”

The next delay is expected sometime in spring of next year.
