PETER MOLYNEUX ANNOUNCES TWO MORE KINECT GAMES THAT WILL NEVER BE MADE

August 14 2010

Guildford, U.K. – Because the videogame industry is still so young many of the people who have helped to create it are still alive and producing games. Names such as Miyamoto, Bushnell, and Garriott are legend in the industry not only for what they shigeru miyamoto award
did but also for what they continue to do for the field they helped create. Some major players, such as Gunpei Yokoi have passed into the great beyond but all in all the innovators of videogames continue to innovate even today.

Eventually those great innovators will start to pass on and leave the industry to younger minds to develop and evolve but today they still live and still produce quality titles. One name that is oft mentioned amongst the greats is Peter Molyneux, the man behind such titles as ‘Black & White’ and ‘Fable’. Those recent contributions are often cited as the principal reason in naming amongst those giants but it is actually his earlier work creating simulation games on Atari and Commodore 64 systems that is his real innovation, work that eventually led to titles such as ‘The Sims’ and even ‘Farmville’. Part of Molyneux’s career has also been marked by grand promises that never materialize and games that appear and disappear in the blink of an eye, something the man himself is expecting with two new titles being developed for the Xbox 360 Kinect.

“We’ve got a lot of really exciting things aside from Milo and Kate for Kinect. We really peter molyneux
see this as the future of gaming and fertile ground for innovation. The ideas are flowing faster than we can deal with and it’s really just a matter of having the time to do everything,” said Molyneux in an exclusive interview. “We have two new titles in development right now. They are perhaps the most exciting and innovative projects we have ever worked on. We are all really excited. However I don’t want to get people’s hopes up as it’s very unlikely that these titles will ever be released. We’ll give it the old college try but realistically there’s no sense getting worked up about them.”

Molyneux’s most famous cancelled game, ‘B.C.’ for the original Xbox got to the stage where a demo version was released but the game has never seen the light of day.fable game

“Molyneux has made some interesting games, particularly ‘Populous’ and ‘Black & White’ that have really contributed to the medium as a whole. Unfortunately a number of his projects have never really come about and even those that did never really lived up to their original promise,” said Scrape TV Gaming analyst Graeme Hawthorne. “Fable is the best example of that but there are others. He’s really got an innovative brain and has really added a different dimension to the industry but most of that has only been seen by programmers. You have to admire his ambition though, that’s top notch.”

The supposedly upcoming ‘Milo and Kate’ was the initial showpiece for Kinect and wowed audiences with its promise, like many of Molyneux’s work in the past.black and white game

“I’m sure that whatever he comes up with for Kinect will be great in his head it’s just a matter of what actually gets put into production. I’d like to think that the output of Lionhead will be on par with their ambition but that is probably unlikely,” continued Hawthorne. “I really hope that we get some screenshots of the games though and perhaps even some gameplay footage. That would really whet the appetite and ensure that the Molyneux legend stays true.”

The two new games are expected to be cancelled early next year.
