WHO: PEOPLE DYING CONTRIBUTING TO DEATH RATES

Feb 19 2008

Geneva, Switzerland – With the release of the latest world mortality statistics the World Health Organization has raised an alarm for the future. The study, published recently on their website, indicates a recent sharp increase in death rates. The reason; More and more people are dying.

WHO logo“This seems to be a worldwide phenomenon,” said Jean-Paul Boyer, spokesperson for WHO. “Really, it does make sense, but this is the first time we’ve been able to collate effects and results into one cohesive document. The study is important as it for the first time really clarifies the numbers versus the human toll that death has on life.”

The report compared death statistics from eighty different countries and found the same results no matter the economic status of the individual country.

Continued Boyer, “There are variations in the numbers of people dying, but that had little impact on the overall numbers. The one commonality between every country studied was that as more people died, the mortality rates increased. Factors such as economy, weather, access to medical facilities, and the like seemed to have no impact on those base numbers.”

“Seeing these numbers for the first time is quite shocking,” said Brian Bishop, a British doctor working for WHO. “It will be interesting to see how this filters into the government and health sectors. It is something we always knew of course, but now that we have a report stating it very clearly, it seems undeniable. I believe this could mark a significant alteration in the way we look at studies of this kind in the future.”

As for the impact of the study, it may take some time before any action can be taken. “We’ve made sure that every government included will get a copy of the report. After that, it’s up to them to implement any changes and use the report how they see fit.”the sound of music

One official for the Swiss government who has seen the report spoke to us on the condition of anonymity. “It’s a very unsettling report. It’s one of those things you just take for granted but once you see it in front of you in black and white it becomes a different animal. I don’t know what our government is going to do with the report, but I’m sure it will cause ripples across the board. I just hope it doesn’t upset the public, that’s my principle concern.”

The organization is due to table the report to the world governments at next week’s UN conference in New York.
