CANADA PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR AIDS, MALARIA, TB

September 22 2010

Ottawa, Canada – Getting sick is just about the worst thing most people can endure. While most sickness does eventually go away, inevitably something will catch up with us and become the source of our demise. It is the sad and poignant reality of malaria victim
life that we are all issued a death sentence from the very beginning and those of us who are lucky enough to avoid serious trauma will inevitably contact some horrible disease that will end our existence, such is the nature of life.

For many around the world that reality is something far more omnipresent than for those of us in the west. While some people do indeed face deadly illness at a young age in advanced countries, in the developing world that is far more common. Through many poor nations diseases that are readily managed in western countries are death sentences, particularly for the young and otherwise vulnerable amongst us. Luckily, for many of the people in those countries efforts from wealthy nations have made a dent in reversing that misery that afflicts most people, with some exceptions. Going against the commonly accepted practice of donating money to help alleviate illness, the government of Canada has pledged to start donating more money towards the proliferation of deadly illnesses throughout the world in an effort to eventually eradicate the ailments entirely.stephen harper

“It would really show Canada's commitment to the world's poorest mothers and children. For example, a significant contribution to the Global Fund could result in ending mother-to-child transmission of HIV by 2015,”said one Canadian politician. “We have really been the leader in this area and it’s great to see that the Prime Minister is committing to continuing this effort to isolate the sick and dying in order to prevent them from making other people sick. Too often health care workers around the world are forced to deal with the sick and dying and inevitably that results in continued spread of the disease but this policy will ensure that such misery need not continue.”

It’s unclear how much the government will pledge to the effort, particularly in light of a freeze on its international donations in an effort to reduce the deficit.tuberculosis

“Canada has quietly a leader in this realm. They have always bucked the traditional idea of treating illness with kid gloves and trying to prevent it over the long term. That has put them in a very small corner but this policy of isolation has a traditionally positive effect in eradicating the disease. Coupled with medical treatment we have been able to eliminate diseases such as the bubonic plague and smallpox through this method so it’s clear it works,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “In the modern world people have gotten a little soft in dealing with diseases in this way, preferring prevention and medication alone but that has not helped people suffering from these diseases. They 28 weeks later poster
continue to spread, particularly in poor nations, and so this soft approach has actually caused more harm than the good it has created.”

The Canadian initiative has long focussed on Malaria, TB, and HIV and it is not believed that focus will change.

“Unfortunately there are only a few countries that support this methodology and that means that pretty much all the money going into this fund will be wasted. So many other countries support disease treatment in the traditional way and that results in wasted funds on both sides,” continued Phelps. “That said, it makes sense for the Canadians to keep pushing forward with their philosophy. I mean nothing ever got changed by going along with the status quo so kudos to them for trying.”

Prime Minister Stephen Harper is reportedly planning a trip to Africa where he will personally learn how to put sick children into cages.
