HEART ATTACK MAY END WORLD’S HEAVIEST MAN’S ATTEMPT AT RECORD

February 26 2010

Ipswich, U.K. – There isn’t a living adult person in the western world who hasn’t at some point worried about his or her waistline. With obesity a growing concern amongst wealthier nations the social and health issue related to being overweight are obesity
coming more and more into the public consciousness. It is though, perhaps, unsurprising that weight has become so much of an issue. At our core, human beings are still animals, hardwired to eat and breed above all other concerns. In a world where access to food is almost unlimited, obesity is the natural outcome.

Of course, the principle reason for our success as a species has been our unique ability to reject our natural urges in favour of making decisions. That rejection of our nature is what has created the chasm between us and the few other species of the planet capable of complex thought. Still there are those who either through nature or nurture are unable to curb their natural urges and end up at the extreme ends of indulgence. For many, food is the greatest of those indulgences, giving rise to not only the health industry, but the super morbidly obese whose weight has gone far out of their own control. Such is the case with Paul Mason who by most accounts is the world’s heaviest man at nearly 1000 pounds. Mason, 48, was recently moved to hospital after a heart attack, is now resting comfortably with a series of 20 lb meals.paul mason

“Yesterday afternoon we were contacted by the patient's GP who was at his home. After the initial assessment it was decided that he needed to go to hospital. We do not have an ambulance that can carry a patient who weighs over 30 stone so we contacted St John Ambulance Service who have a specialist bariatric ambulance. They arrived and conveyed him to hospital, where he was admitted,” said a hospital spokesperson to the Telegraph. “Mr. Mason is now resting comfortably and may make a full recovery. He is now resting comfortably with five lots of take away and enough soda to drown a small village. His spirits are high.”

It’s believed that American Jon Brower Minnoch was the heaviest human being to ever live, at an estimated 1400 pounds, which has often been challenged but never matched.jon brower minnoch

“Inevitably as our species evolves we get larger. We are much taller now than our ancestors, composed of different kinds of musculature and we would seem a giant to many of them, even people in relatively recent history such as ancient Rome. It’s inevitable that weight will also increase alongside other factors,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “Minnoch died in 1983 and since then his record has been challenged but many factors have prevented anyone surpassing his size. Outside social demands, health issues such as heart attacks play a major role in limiting the challengers to that throne and will continue to do so in the future. It is embedded in the game unfortunately and is going to continue to be a challenge.”

The closest anyone has ever come to the crown is Mexican Manuel Uribe who has lost significant amounts of weight in recent years since a recent rise in celebrity status.michael walker fat

“The attention focussed on these people is also an issue. Obviously when people are paying attention your attitude changes. You want to look good on television and that results in a desire to lose the weight that brought that attention in the first place. What someone needs to do is start early in relative isolation, only then can the record be beaten,” continued Phelps. “The major issue with someone like Mason is his age. Heart problems are going to be an issue as will media attention. He already had a long way to go but now, well it’s very unlikely that it will happen now no matter how much he eats.”

Kenneth Brumley, seven years younger than Mason, was considered the next big thing until submitting to gastric bypass after numerous television appearances.
