NEW CELL PHONE STUDY FINDS NO CANCER LINK TODAY
October 22 2011
Copenhagen, Denmark – As cell phones have become more and more ubiquitous across the world, the health concerns regarding them have become a major issue. Everything from the dangers of using phones while driving to increased chance of diseases like cancer have become major news, but now a new study appears to have finally rid us one of those concerns.
A study of more than 350,000 Danes, the largest study yet undertaken, has found no evidence of any link between cell phone usage and cancer rates, this time. That falls in line with another large study conducted last year across multiple countries that had similar results, but it is the size of the current study that has most people convinced that it may in fact be correct this time around, either that or the Danish people have developed an immunity to cancer, which would be a big find as well.
“Our study provides little evidence for a causal association, but we cannot rule out a small to moderate increase in risk for subgroups of heavy users,” said Patrizia Frei, of the Institute of Cancer Epidemiology. “We believe there is very little possibility that anything else unusual has cropped up however, like a sudden immunity to the effects of radiation or a spontaneous cancer cure in these subjects.”
To test the latter, the researchers bombarded the participants with other types of radiation following the cell phone test and found normal rates of cancer in all the subjects.
None of those who did develop cancer as a result of the later tests have reported increases in the potency of their cancer after using cell phones.
“This is an interesting study and it could lead to a better understanding of how cell phones affect people, at least in Scandinavian countries. That is the intrinsic flaw with this particular study, that it only studies one particular group of people. It could well be that Danes are somehow immune to the particular type of radiation emitted by cell phones, something that wouldn’t be experienced by others,” said Scrape TV Health analyst Rebecca Phelps. “Remember, these people are the descendents of Vikings and the last thing a Viking would be taken down by is a cell phone. I mean they didn’t have cell phones, or phones of any kind back then, but there is no way they would have allowed those things to take them down.”
It’s believed that Vikings would have been far less successful had cell phones existed in their time with victims being able to call for help.
“It’s certainly a great study, well the results are great anyway. I mean people are going to continue to use their cell phones so they might as well hear what they want to hear rather than that they are going to get cancer and die. Many of them will anyways, because that’s what happens to people, but no one likes to be reminded of that whenever they are making a call,” continued Phelps. “At least the Danes will be safe, which is good for them. Hopefully those results will be the same in all other people and then we just have to worry about getting cancer from a dozen other sources.”
The researchers have released the majority of their test subjects after concluding the study.
