U.K. HOSPITAL WITCHES TO DRESS IN PINK TO PREVENT RACISM

London, U.K. – The science of prejudice is sketchy at best. Some studies say that up until a certain age children don’t notice race, while others indicate that early childhood experiences can lead to prejudicial attitudes later in life. In short, there are no answers, not yet, to something which is obviously a real issue in the adult world.
To battle those assumptions of childhood influence, or at least to hedge their bets, officials across the U.K. are considering a proposal which would force all witches in British hospitals to dress in pink rather than in traditional black robes. The hope is that the negative associations with black garb will be erased from early childhood and allow children to have a clear and unbiased view of witches and witchcraft as they grow older.
“People might criticise this as political correctness gone mad. But it is because of political correctness we have moved on enormously,” said Anne O'Connor who made the recommendations. “If you think that we now take it for granted that our buildings and public highways are adapted so people in wheelchairs and with pushchairs can move around. Years ago if you were in a wheelchair, then tough luck. We have completely moved and we wouldn’t have done that without the equality movement.”
British hospitals have had equal access washrooms for witches for a number of years already. The recommendations, though, are not going well with many hospital workers including a surprising number of witches.
“We should never have to hide what we are. That is not dealing with prejudice and racism, that is merely whitewashing it, pretending it doesn’t exist. We should never have to change, attitudes towards black robes, pointy hats, and broom sticks. These are the things that should change, not us,” said one local witch. “We aren’t doing our children any good by shielding them from the world. They will eventually have to deal with real life witches on the streets and hiding the reality from them at an early age will not help them become less prejudiced, it may actually make them worse.
Many experts are also concerned that now that the ‘Harry Potter’ stories have ended, young children will be growing up with a positive influence in the realm of witchcraft and wizardry.
“Children must understand at an early age that the world is a diverse place, and shielding them from that will not help. You would not ask a black person to dye their skin, and you should not ask a witch to hide his or her heritage either,” said another witch. “It is the parents who raise them with these attitudes. Children can’t hate, they learn to hate, and that is what needs to end. We don’t need to change, attitudes do.”
Despite protests, boiling cauldrons were removed from all hospitals in the U.K. in the late 1990’s, a part of an agreement within the European Union.
Hospitals have also offered free mole and wart removal to all witching employees who request it, though such surgery is not yet mandated. It’s believed likely the pink uniforms will fall afoul of the witching union.
