SCOTT BROWN ELECTION PROMPTS RETIREMENT TALK FROM OBAMA
January 31 2010
Washington, D.C. – No one ever told Barack Obama that being the President of the United States was going to be an easy job. Obama too likely never believed for a second that the day-to-day stresses of the job wouldn’t get to him. There have been

too many men before him to lead as example for anyone to believe that such a dream job would be dreamy. Lincoln and slavery, Truman and the bomb, Kennedy and Cuba, all examples of how tough the job can really be, all examples Obama surely learned from.
Obama’s first year has been a tough one, no doubt. The flailing economy, the mire of Afghanistan, and almost rabid partisanship are just a few examples of the difficulties that have faced Obama in his first term. Though to a great degree those issues pale in comparison to the issues Harry Truman and George W. Bush face in their first year, the sheer multitude of problems have in many ways tested the will of the President, making it one of the more difficult Presidencies of the modern era. Now though, with the election of Scott Brown to the Senate and the loss of the Democrat’s supermajority, Obama is facing perhaps his biggest crisis, one that may prompt the President into an early retirement.
“He’s taking it really hard, really hard. With everything that has been going wrong so
far he really took solace in having that majority. Everyone knew that Ted Kennedy wasn’t going to make it through his Presidency but they were fairly confident that given the history of that seat and the makeup of the state that the party would retain it, now obviously that has not happened,” said a Washington insider. “While he understands that this is part of the gig he’s really questioning his personal dedication. In his mind he’s still down for doing the job and taking on all challengers, but in his heart he just feels let down. Let down by the voters, let down by the party. That will fade eventually, no doubt, but right now he’s just lashing out at everyone. He’s seriously considering ending his term early.”
Vice-President Joe Biden is reportedly in favour of the plan.
“It would look very, very bad on Obama to quit this soon into his Presidency. There’s little doubt that he will be able to make a great living post-presidency, leaving this
soon might end up being detrimental. I mean you look at the success that Sarah Palin has had and you have to think that Obama will outdo her dramatically. He is after all fully literate. Even Palin did her job for a couple of years before quitting though and I think the backlash would end up hurting Obama,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “This one is really hitting him hard though. It’s not only losing the supermajority, and not only losing Kennedy’s seat, it’s losing it to a guy with so much upward potential. I think he sees that this is a guy that could be running in 2012. In some ways he is helping to create his own enemy.”
Brown has already begun planning his retirement and post-Senate career despite not having officially taken office yet.
“In many ways the new relationship between Barack Obama and Scott Brown could be considered analogous to the kind of relationship that superheroes and supervillains have. The two help create each other, they fight for the hearts and minds of those they claim to protect, and ultimately engage in a battle that could end up destroying everything,” continued Kinsey. “In that way Obama’s retirement talk could be like the doubt and peril the hero always ends up in before resolving to stand up and fight the villain. If he does retire I somehow don’t think it will be the last we see of Obama, or Brown for that matter.”
Obama has reportedly been holed up in solitude in the White House since the election.
