MIKE HUCKABEE COMES OUT IN DEFENCE OF CANNIBALISM
March 2 2010
Washington, D.C. – There are a few crimes that stand above all others as the most vile and depraved acts that a human being can commit against another. Rape, murder, child abuse, genocide, and cannibalism are amongst the most despised and reviled of
all crimes in modern society. Part of that revulsion has to do with changing values rather than an embedded sense of morality, despite what religion may teach us. Rape for example was common and accepted up until women’s rights came to forefront. Child sexual abuse is still common in certain areas of the world and was openly practiced in first world nations such as Denmark as late as 1980. Morality, like everything else, changes with society.
There is one crime however, that stands above all others for sheer revulsion, a trait similar in virtually every culture in the world. That crime is cannibalism which, though still practiced in isolated areas, has been deeply taboo for centuries. Logically, there is little reason for such outrage but the deeply embedded revulsion towards the act continues to render it amongst the worst acts that one human being can commit against another. Of course, not everyone feels that way and now the act of eating the flesh of another human being has gained a new ally, former Arkansas governor and Presidential candidate Mike Huckabee who spoke out in defence of the act on Fox News.
The former governor, now a commentator for Fox, was speaking on the issue of ethics revolving around the embattled New York Representative Charlie Rangel. In that commentary, Huckabee stated that he “Would rather defend Jeffrey Dahmer’s diet than Charlie Rangel on ethics. Dahmer was of course one of the most notorious serial killers in U.S. history, killing 17 people and eating significant portions of their remains. While It’s not clear is Huckabee would actually go to the extent of defending Dahmer for his other actions, his defence of his eating habits has concerned many about the former Governor’s state of mind, particularly as his future candidacy for President remains likely.
“I believe, and I’d have to go back and look through the records to confirm this, that this is the first time a major American politician has ever defended cannibalism. Previous leaders, most of them long dead, actually engaged in the act but that has been frowned upon in recent years. Idi Amin was rumoured to have eaten people, but he is hardly the best person to emulate,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “It is certainly an interesting and daring move by Huckabee. He’s made some interesting moves, particularly moving to television, in an effort to raise his profile for 2012 but this is the boldest and most extreme move he has yet made. It will remain to be seen if this will put him ahead of people like Sarah Palin or Mitt Romney, but it will certainly create quite a stir.”
Romney reportedly considered supporting rape during the 2008 election but relented under the advice of his staff.
“The one thing that has defined Huckabee above all his other Republican rivals has
been the perception of his extreme honesty. He speaks from the heart, and he speaks with integrity and you have to assume that he is doing the same thing here. I sincerely doubt that he would speak up in defence of something like cannibalism unless he really believed in it,” continued Kinsey. “That is one thing he cannot afford, the perception that he is simply politicking, His entire image is based on his honesty and he would be significantly hurt by perceptions that oppose that perception. You have to assume that because he truly believes in cannibalism, otherwise he wouldn’t support it.”
Palin, when asked about Huckabee’s comments, stated that she does not support the legalization of marijuana.
