OBAMA TAKING HEAT FOR TRIBUTE TO HURRICANE KATRINA VICTIMS

August 30 2010

New Orleans, LA – So many years removed from the devastation of Hurricane Katrina it’s easy to dismiss the events, to dull the memory, but that does nothing to mitigate the pain of the people still suffering in the region. The hard reality is that hurricane katrina destruction
Katrina was the worst natural disaster in United States history and though the financial and human toll may pale in comparison to even current disasters such as the flooding in Pakistan or the heat wave in Russia, for the people still living through horror that was wrought all those years ago the pain is just as real.

There has been much media coverage in the last few days commemorating the events of those fateful days five years ago that has brought renewed attention to the lack of progress throughout the region. Even today entire neighbourhoods stand abandoned, the former homes now ramshackle collections of wood and stone. That was undoubtedly on President Obama’s mind when he travelled to the region on Sunday to commemorate the anniversary of those deadly August days. While no speech could ever be expected to heal to wounds or even salve the pain people have suffered, never mind build houses, the President has already received the brunt of criticism from political opponents, many of whom believe his is merely piggybacking on the tragedy for political gain.

“The President showed the same type of disassociation and arrogance he always hurricane katrina lower ward
shows. He spoke earnestly and told people how in tune with their pain he was but none of that rang true. He made no real commitments and simply used words to further his own political agenda. His words mean nothing to the people of Louisiana,” said one Republican Senator. “As we saw in the anaemic response to Gulf Oil Spill this President simply does not care about the people of Louisiana. He cares about scoring political points and not doing what is right by the American people.”

Many critics also pointed to his support of the Muslim community as further evidence of his lack of concern for Louisiana, though he made no mention of said community in his speech.

“This President has shown, from the beginning, a complete disinterest in doing what is right for the American people. Even in this effort to pay tribute to the people who hurricane latrina new orleans
were lost he was as out of touch as always. He brought this huge entourage and all this bluster but didn’t get truly in touch with the common people. Even the way he laid the wreath wreaked of separation,” said a local radio DJ. “The people here need help and have always needed help. The President seems to want to blame everything on his predecessor but he has been in the job long enough to make that a total sham. The inaction by this administration is typical as they spend more time appealing to foreigners than they do taking care of Americans.”

Katrina occurred during the Presidency of George W. Bush.

“The President had a great time in Louisiana. He has not been able to spend much time in the region but hearing the stories and seeing the destruction that still exists really barack obama eating
touched him on an emotional level. The President was very moved by the whole experience and wants the people of the region to know that he does care,” said a spokesperson for the White House. “Unfortunately there were many things that he wanted to do in the area but simply was not able to get around to. He wanted to meet with more people and visit more areas but things came up. He promises that the next time he will get to those things when other issues aren’t so pressing. The President would like to thank the people of Louisiana for their hospitality and wishes them the best in the future.”

The President did apparently eat a bowl of Gumbo but shocked locals when he asked for hot sauce.
