POLITICIANS  APPARENTLY THINK PEOPLE STILL CARE WHAT PAUL MCCARTNEY SAYS

June 5 2010

Washington, D.C. – For years afterwards John Lennon had to constantly backtrack and apologize for his statement that the Beatles were bigger than Jesus. Those comments, made in an almost half-handed way, eventually came to define much of the the beatles
way people thought of not only him but also the rest of the band. Despite that apologia, his statement was in fact true; The Beatles were just about the biggest thing on the planet for millions were far more important than Jesus or any other religious or political entity.

Perhaps it was just the thought of future earnings, or perhaps it was the notion that his true meaning had been lost in the controversy, but for years afterwards much of his solo career was taken up by questions about that statement. Now his former band mate and partner has stepped into a similar mire, with a statement that has stirred up controversy and once again made The Beatles more important than Jesus, at least to a few bloggers and politicians in Washington. After being awarded the coveted Gershwin Prize, the first time a foreigner has ever received the honour, Paul McCartney made a crack about former President George W. Bush. Though jokes about the former president are hardly new, the controversy that has sprouted up around the singer has many wondering if anyone still cares what Paul McCartney has to say.paul mccartney

“Getting this prize would just be good enough, but getting it from this president... It's a fantastic honor (for) the Gershwin family to give me this incredible award and for me to be awarded it by the Library of Congress. And in fact, after the last eight years, it's great to have a president who knows what a library is,” said McCartney after receiving the award, drawing criticism from every corner of the conservative establishment in the United States. McCartney then performed a medley of his greatest hits.

“The Beatles were undoubtedly the biggest band in the world and that influence has spanned generations. Kids today like the music and even the personalities though not in the same kind of obsessive way that kids in the 60’s lennon mccartney
did. That’s a tribute to their music and to the brand that they have created but even that doesn’t mean that what they have to say means anything anymore,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “Jokes about George Bush’s intelligence are nothing new, even today as he rests in retirement or some stupor or whatever it is he is doing the jokes are still relevant and vital. To the generation that grew up with him, the generation that is still dealing with war and economic turmoil, these kinds of jokes are always going to be relevant. Kids born today won’t get them, but for these generations the jokes still bring a chuckle, though that will eventually fade. But we are talking about recent history, not 40 years ago.”

Fellow surviving Beatle Ringo Starr had nothing to say about the controversy though it’s likely very few would even have heard him had he said anything at all.george bush

“Many of the people who are criticizing McCartney no doubt feel a personal attachment to him. They grew up with that music and had a great deal of affection for the band and the people, particularly Lennon and McCartney and so for one of them to come out against something they love, obviously they are going to get a little upset,” continued Chambers. “You have to question whether or not this is true anger or just political opportunism but either way it likely won’t matter because nothing McCartney has said in the last thirty years or so has really mattered, whether it was a political statement or a very, very well worn joke.”

John Lennon, being dead, only has old jokes.
