SENATE DEADLOCKED OVER SNOWBALL FIGHT PROPOSAL

February 11 2010

Washington, D.C. – Things are never easy in Washington and that is likely to never change. Whether debating over healthcare reform or economic reform, the battles that have been fought in the halls of power are always greater and much more fierce washington snow
than anything Al Qaeda or the Taliban can bring to bear. This government was supposed to be different, it was supposed to bring change, it was supposed to bring hope, but instead it has brought more of the same. With the old game of Republicans versus Democrats in full swing, progress is once again at a standstill.

Adding to the woes is the three feet of snow that had been piled on the D.C. area over the last few days which has crippled the city. With lawmakers shovelling their driveways alongside regular Joes, a kind of equilibrium has come to the capital that will likely evaporate alongside the massive snow banks. For now though, everything is equal with one major exception. While schools and businesses are allowing people to go home early to enjoy the unseasonable snowfall, lawmakers are still stuck at work trying to hammer through a bill that would allow them to leave early and engage in a friendly snowball fight. Unfortunately the proposal has, like many that come through the senate, has stalled on apparently simple details such as how many people to a side and the size of the snowballs.harry reid

“There’s little doubt that we are at an impasse. There are a lot of issues at play here and we need to ensure that any action we take is in the best interest of the American public. We can’t allow this debate to bog down progress that simply put the people of this country simply do not need,” said Majority Leader Harry Reid. “The American people realize that politics as usual simply will not do anymore. They are sick of the fighting and debate that goes on amongst lawmakers and they simply will not, and should not have to, tolerate it any longer. We will get a deal done.”

Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell echoed to sentiment from Reid, but also made it clear that they will not just simply bow down to demands of the President.snowball fight

“Because of the election of Scott Brown this debate will be as stymied as the healthcare bill, which is really a shame. Part of the process is vetting and checks and balances but in the United States those measures help reduce law making to the level of argument, that’s just the way it is,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “When it comes to healthcare or other major issues, much of that debate can be forgiven. After all six months, a year, it almost doesn’t matter how long it takes but this snow won’t last forever. In a week or so much of it will be gone and this opportunity will have been lost forever.”

Much of the snow has stopped falling, but temperatures are expected to remain low with a lot of wind.snowball fight

“One of the biggest concerns has to be the discrepancy between the two parties. Obviously the Democrats have a major advantage in just sheer numbers which will allow them a decided advantage in any kind of snowball conflict. Apparently Evan Bayh also has a wicked arm which will give them even more of an advantage,” continued Kinsey. “I’d imagine that by May or so they might be able to hammer out a deal that will be mutually agreeable, just based on previous experience. Unfortunately that will make the actual snowball fight difficult, but this is Washington.”

It’s expected that by mid-March there will be no traces of snow left.
