TEA PARTY ATTACKS OBAMA AFTER HE FAILS TO CALL WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

November 2 2010

Washington, D.C. – It’s a long standing tradition in American sport that the President gives a quick call to the winner of the championship of the four major sports. It is perhaps not the most important or most venerable of traditions, but it is nixon bowling
one that has built up over a number of years. When it comes to baseball however, a call is often seen as less of a nicety and more of an obligation due to the connection between that sport and the American identity.

A call though is exactly what President Obama did not do upon hearing of the World Series win by the San Francisco Giants. Breaking with tradition, there was no call to the winning clubhouse and even now, days later it appears that the President has still not made the call. While one could forgive the leader of the free world being busy, what with being wrapped up in war, midterm elections, and a still troubled economy, but critics see the lack of action as one more in a line of offences that show his disconnect from the bulk of the country. Of course, with the lowest rated World Series in history, it is entirely possible that the President simply hasn’t heard about the win, a fact that appears to be lost on his critics.president obama

“This is typical of this President and this administration. They have been totally out of touch with what is important to ordinary Americans and this is one more example of this behaviour. Baseball is America’s past time, and that fact seems to have completely passed this President by,” said Tea Party candidate Mitchell Haus. “The San Francisco Giants are the champions of the world and they deserve to be accredited so by the leader of that world. For decades Presidents both rich and poor have made these calls, but for Obama even this simple little task seems to great an effort, perhaps too common, to undertake.”

It’s not immediately clear how many common people made calls to the Giants clubhouse following the win.Tim Lincecum

“I don’t remember there being any kind of obligation in the oath of office to call the winners of sports championships, but it has become a tradition of sorts for a long time. It likely means a lot to the players because, well it’s the President and so it’s a big deal. As far as this showing his disconnect with the country, I’m not sure that’s a completely accurate description of events,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “In fact, one could argue that it is exactly in line with the American people. Baseball certainly has strong roots in American culture but it has hit hard times of late and the simple fact of the matter is that few people really care unless it’s the Yankees or the Red Sox in the final. Even then it’s marginal.”

Obama is an avowed basketball fan and has expressed a great deal of fondness for football but has made no public declaration on baseball.

“Coming from Chicago it’s understandable that he would be less than enthused about obama phone
the notion of some team winning the World Series. That city has long suffered a drought of World Series championships despite undying support for the Cubs. That would certainly bring about a lot of bitterness and it would be understandable if he just doesn’t want o get involved,” continued Kinsey. “There’s also the fact that this is a California team. If it had been from a red state where he need to try and drum up support then I’m sure the call would have been immediate. Cali has been Democrat for virtually every election that isn’t likely to change anytime soon. He isn’t going to lose any votes there and so going out of his way to make a phone call just seems a little superfluous.”

Giants Manager Bruce Bochy has reportedly been sitting by his phone night and day since the win waiting for the call that has yet to come.
