BERNANKE JUST CAN’T BE BOTHERED HELPING THE ECONOMY ANYMORE
August 26 2011
Washington, D.C. – It’s been nearly three years since the global economy went into a meltdown, sending the planet into panic and threatening to send us all back to the dark age. While the severity of the implosion will be debated for a long time, the long term effects cannot be so disputed, something to which millions without jobs will attest.
Global economic health, whether we like it or not, still revolves around the United States and the actions of the Federal Reserve, or lack thereof. In fact, one could argue that the Federal Reserve is the most important institution in the world, governing the economic health of much of the world. Now though it appears that even that powerful institution is starting to get sick of trying to help the economy, as evidenced by Chairman Ben Bernanke’s unwillingness to do anything to help jumpstart the U.S. economy yet again.
“This economic healing will take a while, and there may be setbacks along the way. Moreover, we will need to remain alert to risks to the recovery, including financial risks. However the healing process should not leave major scars,” Bernanke said at a conference in Wyoming. He made no comment on further economic action, but insiders detailed his frustration with the process.
“Ben feels like all he’s been doing is helping for the last three years and he is sick of it. He is making little gestures, but he can’t keep going on this way. It’s been three years
of bleeding with no signs of stopping and he just doesn’t want to do it anymore,” said an insider. “There’s only so much a person can take and h is just sick of doing it. He may eventually change his mind but that’s where he is right now and people are just going to have to deal with it.”
Bernanke did endorse a short-term jobs program, albeit begrudgingly.
“The fact that everyone else is looking to him, really the whole world, to make these decisions isn’t helping any either. He feels like all they are doing is asking him to solve the problems and they aren’t really giving him much support, and it’s enough for him,” continued the insider. “Ben is a good guy but everyone has their breaking point and he’s just about there. I think he’s just at the point where he feels the economy should fix its own damn self and just burn, he doesn’t really care at this point.”
It’s not clear how stable Bernanke’s job is given the current climate. It’s believed likely there would be thousands of applicants for his job should he leave.
“The U.S. is still the centre of the economic world as much as some countries, like China and Russia, hope to change that. Right now, everything still keys off their actions and they are just going to have to deal with that. If the U.S. does nothing, things will go bad so they really need to make an effort to make Bernanke feel better about what he’s doing,” said Scrape TV Economic analyst Michael Santino. “Perhaps a paid vacation, or letting him go home early every now and then, or even a casual day at the Fed. There are lots of little things they can do to make him feel better and they should really start making an effort, for the good of the whole economy.”
Bernanke refused to speak to us.
