BOEHNER IN TEARS AFTER OBAMA’S SPEECH TO THE NATION

Washington, D.C. – Win or lose, pass or fail, President Obama has put the jobs issue on the line. His $450 billion jobs plan was laid out very clearly to the country and to congress last night in his address to the nation and has already become a lightning rod for controversy, despite being one of the least partisan efforts in his Presidency.
Democrats, of course, gave multiple standing ovations during the address while Republicans applauded politely, punctuated with the occasional chuckle and even guffaw. How the two sides actually receive the plan remains to be seen, a battle to be played out over the days and weeks to come but at least one Republican leader, Speaker of the House John Boehner, made his feelings clear as he exited the chambers in tears.
“Speaker Boehner does not wish to comment on the specifics of the plan, that is something which will be discussed going forward. He was, though, quite moved by the speech. He usually is. Even the Speaker will admit that the President is a great orator and he always stirs emotions when he speaks,” said a congressional insider. “The Speaker was as moved as anyone else as much as he tried to hide it. This time he broke down a little earlier than usual. Normally he can keep it together until he is in private.”
Fellow Republicans rushed to Boehner’s side with tissues and ushered him into private chambers.
It’s believed likely that he will pull it together in time to protest the plan alongside the rest of the Republican congress.
“He’ll be okay, this is the way the Speaker is. Everyone knows that. His tears do not indicate that he will fully support the President’s plan, or oppose it. They are simply the tears of a man who cares very much for his country and everything to do with it,” continued the insider. “He has steeled himself and no one, not a Republican or a Democrat, should believe that he has already made his decision. These are the tears of a man who cares too much, and he cares too much to make a rash decision.”
Boehner was seen sometime after the breakdown completely dry-eyed, though a little red and puffy.
“No matter what this speech or this plan entailed it was going to be controversial. That is the way things are in D.C. these days. Everything is partisan, even when it’s not. There really isn’t any possibility of middle ground in anything, even in tears,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “It’s going to be a tough sell for the President and the rest of Democrats no matter how moving his speech. The American people might buy it, might, but that doesn’t mean it will happen. This is D.C. after all.”
No other members of Congress were seen crying. Democrat Harry Reid did seem slightly confused after leaving the chambers.
“Boehner is man who is easily moved, and men who are easily moved seem to belie their intentions but that is a false and sometimes dangerous assumption. Boehner may cry, but they are tears of steel and anyone who assumes anything about them is going to be in trouble,” continued Kinsey. “I’m sure he will speak the Republican line, even if it kills him. Even if he is overcome by tears afterwards. That is John Boehner and that is the modern Republican Party, for good or for ill.”
Boehner called his wife and asked her to pick him up from work.
