CAIN PLEDGES TO HAVE KIDS LEARN CUBAN LANGUAGE IF ELECTED PRESIDENT
November 18 2011
Miami, FL – Cuba and the United States have not been okay for a long time. There was a period when the two countries got along just fine, but then Cuba launched its little revolution and everything went south from there. Now, decades later, little has changed between the two nations and there is little indication that that be different anytime in the future.
That is unless Herman Cain is elected to office.
The occasional front runner for the Republican nomination for President made a stop in Miami’s Little Havana area, indulging in local fare and engaging the community there when he made a little gaffe, asking “How do you say delicious in Cuban?” People from Cuba of course speak Spanish, something of which Cain was reminded later, but that didn’t stop him from promising that if elected President, that he would promote the Cuban language in schools, hoping to better relations between the two countries.
“Herman Cain as President would be dedicated to bettering the whole country for all its citizens, not just a select few. President Cain, unlike many of his fellow Republicans, very much supports diversity and embraces complexity,” said a spokesperson for the candidate. “Herman Cain believes that all people should be in touch with their culture and not forced to simply, blindly, accommodate someone else. He believes that the people of Cuba should be able to speak their own language and not be forced to be someone else’s version of what they think a Cuban person should be.”
While Cubans do have their own distinct dialect and even certain phrases unique to the country, the language spoken in the country and abroad is Spanish.
Cain has long supported the speaking of Atlantian. He grew up on the west side of Atlanta.
“All candidates from time to time are going to have gaffes. It’s inevitable. There is only so far that your knowledge base goes and campaigning can be tiring so put those two things together and you end up with mistakes, inevitably,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “All the candidates thus far have had some kind of mistake, but it’s how you recover from them that really counts. Thus far, Cain has rebounded very well from gaffes, especially the sex assault ones, and this will likely be no different if he plays it right.”
It’s unclear if Cain, as President, would be willing to allocate federal funds to promote Cuban in schools.
“If he continues to press this issue, continues to insist that Cuban is a language, he may end up in trouble. Making a mistake is one thing, but compounding that mistake is something else entirely and if he doesn’t back away he could end up losing support,” continued Kinsey. “That said, there may not be all that many people who even know that Cuban isn’t a language, at least on the Republican side and that alone could actually win him some support. I’m sure most people are fine with supporting the Cuban people, not so much the leadership, but the people, and this could be an issue that plays well with them.”
Cain has also expressed his support for the country of Spanish, hoping to not isolate supporters of that nation.
